My Review Of Jennifer Lopez And Owen Wilson’s Marry Me

The Rom-Com That Roots For The Guy IMO On Peacock And In Theaters

She's beautiful, funny, talented, can sing, can dance, and can act. What's not to love about her? The iconic Jennifer Lopez is back in theaters and on Peacock streaming in time for Valentine’s Day weekend but is Marry Me worth the 2 hours of our time?

Marry Me

Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson star in Marry Me, a well-timed romantic comedy. Released in time for Valentine’s Day weekend, the movie is about a pop star whose career is on fire and who is about to marry her boyfriend in front of the entire world. Sadly, as she’s about to tie the knot in a publicity stunt timed out with the release of their new song, Marry Me, she finds out he’s a cheating cad.

Just as Cat (Lopez) is sadly on stage, deciding what to do, she spies Charlie Gilbert (Owen Wilson) in the crowd holding a sign that says Marry Me. Wilson, the simple, down to earth, math teacher is there with his best friend Parker (Sarah Silverman) and daughter Lou (Chloe Gilbert).

Cat and Charlie lock eyes and the pop star throws caution to the wind in a moment of hopeful despair as she says I do, I’ll marry you, and points at Charlie. Suddenly, the down-to-earth math teacher and everyday kind of guy is marrying a pop sensation in front of the world.

Marry Me is a shout-out to the life of pop stars and the life of Lopez who has been in love, unsuccessfully, more than once. Feeling less like the typical chick-flick than most rom-coms, Marry Me spends a lot of time exploring the two main characters' lives as they explore each other's very different worlds.

Full of music, romance, and cute interactions between Cat, the kid's Charlie teaches, and Charlies' daughter Lou, it’s hard not to feel the warm and fuzzy feelings the movie means to convey. With a well-rounded cast that includes the likes of John Bradley as Cats loyal assistant and ropes in Jimmy Fallon to add to the metaverse feeling the movie has, it’s an enjoyable 2 hours that will leave you rooting for both Charlie and Cat as they struggle with their feelings, the insanity of their situation, and the fear of being vulnerable.

Marry Me is now in theaters and on Peacock Streaming. It’s a great movie for date night and a perfectly timed release for Valentine’s day.

Of course, if you're not into this one there are a number of other throwbacks to watch on streaming, blue ray, and DVD.

1. The Bounty Hunter-Jennifer Anniston and Gerard Butler

2. The Ugly Truth-Gerard Butler and Katherine Heigl

3. Message In A Bottle-Kevin Costner and Robin Wright-Penn

4. When in Rome-Josh Duhamel and Kristin Bell

5. Any Ryan Gosling Movie

It's Valentine's Day weekend my fellow movie watchers and one of the easiest things to do for Valentine's Day when you're planning something for that special lady or gentlemen, especially during this drawn-out public health issue, is to find one of your favorite romantic comedies or a new one to share together, order a pizza and curl up on the couch. Slip that gift in at some point before or after the movie, maybe even managing to surprise someone, stay safe, and enjoy.

Final Thoughts

Jennifer Lopez is an icon and Owen Wilson is always convincing in whatever role he takes, and this one will make guys want to be him more than ever. Lopez is beautiful in this role as it portrays parts of her life as a pop star but allows her to bring both her intense talents as a singer and her incredible ability to shine in front of the camera to the role. Wilson plays the average Joe faced with the scary reality of fame and the love of his life being from a completely different world. The supporting cast fills their roles in an entertaining and endearing way. All in all, I predict Marry Me will be an instant classic in the Romance Comedy genre.
