The weekend is upon us, and for the Netflix fans, I've got an incredible adventure lined up for you if you take my recommendation to heart. It's a mixture of the classic movie Cocoon and the television series Supernatural. It's one part adorable, one part scary, and one part an intriguing adventure for the cast/characters of The Buroughs. Geena Davis can still get a guy's blood flowing, and Alfred Molina is always incredible.

The Boroughs tackles issues like senior health, retirees, and loss as it drops Bill Pullman, Geena Davis, Alfred Molina, and an entertaining cast of misfit seniors into an idyllic retirement community in the New Mexico desert. When a grieving newcomer (Molina) arrives against his better judgment, he eventually joins up with a group of seniors committed to confronting an otherworldly threat.

After arriving and fighting the idea of bonding with the other neighbors, a tense encounter with Geena Davis, who is a rowdy, opinionated member of their little desert community, Molina slowly accepts this is his life and agrees to a barbecue offered by his neighbor, played by Bill Pullman. Seeing two of the greats of their generation on screen together makes the pairing all the more enjoyable to watch, as their characters are two sides of a coin.

Soon after becoming friends with Pullman, he learns of the death of the previous tenant in his new home. When one of the group suffers a horrible death, the need to gather together to discover what's going on in the Boroughs brings the bunch together.

The eight-episode run is on Netflix, and it's an easy watch. The story flows along nicely, has several undertones, a romance between Geena Davis and the much younger security guard who takes her seriously, and secrets held by more than just the main characters.

My next recommended watch is the show AWAY, also on Netflix. Imagine being assigned to a mission to space, and planning to be gone a while, when it all falls apart. Hillary Swank's commander is tested almost immediately as they enter space, facing an onboard accident, a divided crew, and a family emergency back on Earth. Already at the point of no return, she needs to earn her crew's trust and risk her life on a high-stakes repair operation.

Bingeable show fans will enjoy the pacing, the excitement, and the look at the dangers of space missions. Away is a slower-paced show, and is likely best planned as an overtime viewing rather than a binge watch. However, the ten-episode arc, the character work, and the special effects don't disappoint.

And then comes the entertaining and rewatchable experience that is the Thursday Murder Club. We're going from space back to the world of senior citizens, but don't worry. In this world of senior citizens, we have another group of outstanding talents on screen together.

You really can't go wrong with stars like Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, and Ben Kingsley together. Throw in a fun story, a well-produced movie, and the likes of Tom Ellis (Lucifer), Jonathan Price, and Naomi Ackie, and this becomes something special.

The Thursday Murder Club centers on four unstoppable retirees who gather to solve old cold cases. Things get interesting when they find themselves in the middle of a real whodunnit.

Sometimes it's fun to relax, vegetate, and give your body a rest while you entertain your brain, your soul, or drown out the noise of the world. That's the mature version of the "Netflix and chill" time some of us like to have. Any one of these funny, cute, intriguing mysteries and adventures will take you for an enjoyable ride, whether it's the award-winning talents of the Thursday Murder Club or one of the many talents in Away and the Boroughs. Enjoy.
