My Buc-ee's Shirt Has Made Me a Local Celebrity
I had no idea how popular this clothing item was.

Bucc-ee's shirts are popular
Last summer, my oldest son was traveling and stopped at the one and only Buc-ee's in Virginia. When he returned home he gave me a T-shirt. I thought the buck-toothed beaver was goofy-looking, but whenever I wore the shirt, people noticed.
I was inside a local convenience store, and a man shouted, "Hey, I've been there too." I did not bother to tell him this was a gift, so I only smiled and nodded.
When I walked a local trail, a couple passed me smiling as they gave a thumbs up, and the man said, " Nice shirt." My emotions ranged from being paranoid to feeling like a local celebrity.
Last week, as I was crossing the street, a man driving a truck yielded the right of way to me as he blew his horn. He stuck his head out the window and said, "I love Buc-ee's; it's a great place, and I have a shirt too". Why are these T-shirts so popuular?
My son said it's assumed that if you are wearing the shirt, you have traveled and been inside the huge convenience store. I read something similar when I posted the question online.
Wearing a Buc-ee's shirt serves as an instant conversation starter and a way to connect with fellow travelers who have braved the chaotic, football-field-sized convenience stores
Facebook.

How did Buc-ee's get it's name?
Who came up with the name and the logo of the famous business. Arch "Beaver" Aplin III the co-founder gave Buc-ee's its name in 1982 when opening his first store in Texas.
He combined his own childhood nickname, his dog's name and the name of a famous cartoon character. Alpin was named for Bucky Beaver from the 1950s Ipana toothpaste cartoon mascot and his dog's name was Buck.
I find it amusing that people have made the assumption that I have been to the popular location just because I am wearing a novelty item and they have the desire to share. I feel like I have joined a sorority or an exclusive club based on reactions.
I thought about a story where a teacher made a little girl take off her shirt because it had the logo of a sorority and only members were allowed to wear it. The child's mother had purchased the item from a thrift store, and the teacher's actions were scrutinized.
I imagined people complimenting my shirt only for their smiles to turn to frowns when I said I didn't actually go to Buc-ee's. In my mind I saw Bucc-ee's customers coming for me with pitchforks with chats of "Fraud, and "Off with her head." I realize, of course that others have probably given the shirt to friends and family.

Bucc-ee's is expanding
The one Virginia location opened on June 30, 2025. It is a massive 74,000-square-foot travel center at Exit 240 off Interstate 81 in Mount Crawford (Rockingham County, near Harrisonburg) and has 120 fueling positions.
There are plans for two additinal stores in the future. Like Virginia, Arkansas, Florida, Kentucky, South Carolina, Ohio, Colorado, Missouri, and Mississippi, all hav one location. There are 56 locations across the US with abut 38 in Texas.
Bucc-ee's is about an hour and 45 minutes from my home. I don't see myself going there unless I am traveling in that direction. I would probably purchase another shirt just for the fun of it.
The logo on the tradiitional classic shirts come in navy, black, red, white, and gray. Buc-ee's rotates its inventory with hundreds of designs, including seasonal releases (like holiday themes, neon, ad tye-dye).There are also a wide range of location-specific city or state colors .
