Musings On Something Great

Netflix Original Movie Musing

Honestly, the reason why I watched this Netflix Original Movie was for Gina Rodriguez.

She is just so addictive to watch. Her facial expressions, humor, and she oozes confidence. *I wish I had that much confidence in my body.*

She is such a positive role model for anyone.

Someone Great is posted as a romantic comedy about a girl who breaks up with a boyfriend and her two buddies help her out.

So I decided to watch it.

Why not, it is a slow day, I need to take a break from re-watching Game of Thrones for the 9th time.

It is a beautiful story about meeting someone in your 20's, growing up together, then, in your 30's realizing that you are two completely different people than you were before.

Many people have this same relationship.

The beauty of young love, addictive lust, an unknown future pulls you along through this wild roller coaster.

The end is either a smooth ending, gliding into the loading/unloading zone, high, happy on life, or it buckles, flies off the tracks, crashing hard, and destroying a part of you.

The thing is, no matter how hard you fight for it, there are times where you will fly off the safe, comfortable ending never able to pull back onto the track.

The movie itself was a lovely break from normal life.

It opens with a flashback of Jenny(Gina Rodriguez) and her boyfriend Nate being cute and adorable, then flips right to the present with Jenny drunk, mascara running down her face, bawling in the train station, right beside another Latino girl, a little heavier than herself.

This movie may have the most hilarious opening I have seen in a while.

Jenny has her two best friends, they are very similar to the cute little angel and demon on your shoulder.

Angel - Blair(Brittney Snow) - Blonde hair, blue eyes, seems a little boring and innocent, oh boy, do not worry, she gets a little demon in her.

Demon - Erin(DeWanda Wise) - Beautiful caramel skin, outgoing, adventurous, lesbian goddess, she is all about jumping, experiencing life.

The three of them go on an adventure to find passes to a rave Neon Classic, little do the Angel & Demon know, it is so Jenny can run into Nate again.

They run into a few very colorful characters.

From a very weird Craigslist meetup for some tickets to their favorite dealer for some Molly.

My absolute favorite, RuPaul.

Whenever RuPaul speaks, it is nothing but full of honey, wisdom, love, and a tiny bit of bitchiness.

*I have read all his books, read them!*

Over the course of the movie, Jenny is focused so hard on getting Nate back, but that moment, that moment when she catches his eyes in the middle of the rave, his eyes say it all.

Goodbye.

Jenny leaves, heartbroken.

She sits on the train and writes out her feelings, she wants one final date, one final hug, one final kiss, just one...

The molly haze clears for a moment and she realizes that her young love has passed, they both have grown up. They have changed, for the better, but in that process, grew apart.

It is a beautiful movie about your friends being there for you during the shittiest times in life.

This movie did make me a little jealous.

Having that close connection with other females, I wish I lived close to my girlfriends.

To be able to be there for them, for them to be there for me.

To be able to just go out and have a drink, or hang out at home watching Netflix.

Favorite quotes in the movie.

Demon - Erin. "Grief is an emotion, best served with a side of stiff dick."

RuPaul - "I can feel so much love in your eyes. This is not where it ends. Trust and believe."

Sadly, Netflix continuity people were not on the ball all the way on this one.

In the scene with RuPaul, holding the joint and snuggling Erin. Erin asks to go to the bathroom, Ru asks for the joint first. Magically it appeared in Erin's hand.

Silly editors.

XOXO,
