Episode 3 Review

We are officially halfway through the Moonknight series and though I am not entirely sure where they are wanting to go with the end of the series, I am still enjoying it, so episode 3 here we go!

At the start of the episode Layla is going after Marc, and in getting her fake passport we learn a little bit more about her backstory. Her father was an archeologist and they seemed to have a very close relationship. No doubt that her relationship with her father and her losing him will come up again.

At the end of last episode we left Harrow and his group finding the scarif and at the start of this episode Ammit’s group is using the scarif to find her tomb.

For two episodes I’ve really wanted to see more Marc and we started with that but when confronted with killing someone Steven took back over. It's almost like when Steven is front and center, Marc is his strength and when Marc is front and center Steven is his conscience.

We also finally get a pretty big hint that Jake is also in the picture and possibly even more violent than Marc.

Khonshu is desperate and Marc has fallen too far behind Harrow so Khonshu caused an eclipse which prompted an audience with the gods in a desperate attempt by Khonshu to stop Ammit’s digging crew.

Harrow charms his way past the council of gods by throwing Stevn/Marc under the bus, calling him broken and unwell, which Marc admits isn’t untrue. The council doesn’t see through Harrow’s lies and lets him go.

The chick that is the avatar for the goddess of love and music clearly feels for Marc, possibly because her goddess has a soft spot for Khonshu so she helps him, trying to lead him to someone who can help him.

Layla catches up with Marc and his concern for her safety is very evident but she is very headstrong and insistent on doing things her own way. However that isn’t a bad thing her way gets her and Marc into an antique dealer in an attempt to find another way to find Ammit’s tomb.

Harrow shows up at their antique dealer and pretty much reveals that Marc is who murdered Layla’s father, which of course stuns Layla and I’m sure is going to cause more conflict later.

God the moon imagery is just so damn good, Marc appears on top of the display pyramid in his Moonknight suit with the moon behind him and it looks incredible!

A fight breaks out as the antique dealer is also charmed by Harrow, Layla is badass but we knew that already.

Steven is trying to fight his way through as Marc is fighting his way out,

Steven takes over the body in the middle of the fight and is of course getting them killed, until he hands the body back over to Marc. I do like that the gave Steven the Mr. Knight look, but until this story comes to a head I'm not sure what the back and forth during fight scenes is doing for the story narratively. The transition between the personalities seems to be going a lot smoother, I think now that they are aware of each other the passage between the two has eased. I do like the balance between Steven and Marc as far as when their skillsets are needed, it shows that neither of them is a broken person but together they are whole.

Khonshu turns back the night sky so that Layla and Steven can find where they are going, hoping it will help him in the long run.

As a consequence Khonshu is being imprisoned in stone, and I am assuming this means all powers and protections that were granted to Marc are now also gone.

The series is half over, as far as I know there are only to be 6 episodes and with Khonshu locked up and Marc powerless I am really not sure where they're going to go from here. That said I didn’t like Wanda Vision until the end of the series so we’ll see where this goes.
