'Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials,' Trailer One Quick Reaction

'The Scorch Trials' seems like it will follow the same marketing plan as the first film to try and attract an audience.

This is the first trailer of the highly anticipated second installment of the Maze Runner franchise.

Much like the first movie; it's biggest draw to viewers who were not readers of the James Dashner's series, was the mystery surrounding the Maze. The Scorch Trials seems like it will follow that same marketing plan to try and attract an audience.

My initial reactions to the trailer was excitement. The trailer peaked my interest with it's mystery, and the possible story it follows.

Dylan O'Brien as Thomas

As a reader of all three books in the series, I can already tell that a lot of liberties are being taken with this movie.

Personally, I believe it is a good thing that liberties will be taken with this film. While the Scorch Trials was a good read, there were many things about it that I sat and wondered "how are they going to adapt this to a movie."

Some of the liberties I can see being taken right off the bat:

In the book, WCKD forces the Gladers out into the Scorch in order to reach a "safe haven." Essentially as a means to test the group.

But in the trailer it appears as though WCKD is trying to keep the Gladers in the base (or at least acting like that is their desire), but the Gladers go out into the Scorch willingly to try and escape WCKD.

It also looks like that Teresa will be with Thomas and his crew, instead of spending the movie with the Group B (An all girls group that was in a separate Maze) like in the book.

One exciting scene that I noticed from the book, was the scene around 1:30 when lightning was raining down on the Gladers. It looks very familiar to the end of the book. And that should get readers excited as well.

The trailer made me much more excited for this film, and unlike most film adaptations of novels, I am interested to see what liberties Wes Ball will take from the original source material.

Just based on this trailer, this movie is setting up to be just as big a success as the first installment, but time will tell.
