One of Marvel’s favorite new characters is Maria Rambeau, introduced in Captain Marvel. Ever since fans were introduced to Maria Rambeau, played by Lashana Lynch, she became an instant favorite, as did her young daughter, Monica. In WandaVision, we are reintroduced to an older grown-up Monica Rambeau. She seems like she will be major player in the future of the MCU. And with Marvel Studios announcing a while back that they are planning a Captain Marvel sequel, perhaps that means we will be seeing a lot more of Maria and Monica Rambeau.

And new photos of Lashana Lynch that just came out show that we might just get that. We might very well see more of Maria Rambeau in The Marvels. Captain Marvel 2/The Marvels will be set after Avengers: Endgame and will see Carol Danvers team up with other Marvel superheroes.

Nia DaCosta is directing The Marvels, and the main characters that we know of so far will be Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris will reprise the role from WandaVision), and Ms. Marvel Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani). Because of the these three highlighting the film, the official title was different than what many fans thought it would be: The Marvels. We have no idea who else is in the movie yet except that Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson, is confirmed to return. There is a lot of speculation as to whether or not Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), Yon-Rogg (Jude Law), or Maria Rambeau will be back, and now we may have some confirmation as to Maria Rambeau’s involvement.

In Captain Marvel, we are introduced to Maria Rambeau as Carol Danvers’ best friend. In WandaVision, we learn that Maria Rambeau died after founding SWORD. So, the likelihood of seeing her in The Marvels is slim…at least until now, perhaps. Lashana Lynch was spotted in London having dinner with Teyonah Parris and Nia DaCosta. The Marvels is currently filming in London. Lashana Lynch is a UK native, so it’s not strange that she’d be there, but meeting up with the film’s director? That sparks a lot of speculation! There’s nothing solid yet, of course.

Of course, this opens up the question of the timeline. Maria Rambeau did die between the events of Captain Marvel and The Marvels. However, that doesn’t mean that we couldn’t see her in The Marvels. There could be flashbacks perhaps to Carol and Maria’s time in the Air Force or showing Captain Marvel visiting Earth some. Perhaps it could be flashbacks with Monica. One very plausible way to have Maria in the movie would be to show the founding of SWORD. With the introduction of it in WandaVision, it is expected to be a large part in the future of the MCU and probably The Marvels. Another flashback idea could be showing Maria and her battle with cancer, and what life was like during the Thanos snap for her with Carol or Monica. Or it could show why Monica seems to have so much anger against Captain Marvel.

Of course, if Lashana Lynch does return as Maria Rambeau in The Marvels, that will open up the question of, will this be the only MCU project that she will appear in? The Secret Invasion Disney+ show is also filming in London soon and there is a strong possibility that Secret Invasion and The Marvels will be tied together somehow. We don’t know yet how the MCU will adapt the famous comic storyline, but it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see something about Fury and the Skrulls helping to found SWORD, which would, of course, include Maria.

Whatever the case, fans shouldn’t think that the world is done with Maria Rambeau’s story.
