With Black Adam debuting this week and a lot of talk surrounding a certain character's potential return; Many people are thinking about what the future of DC Films and television may look like if this rumored cameo does end up happening.

For those keeping score at home Dwayne The Rock Johnson has all but confirmed Henry Cavill will return as Superman. Without downright saying it The Rock has given a massive number of hints that it is in fact occurring. Personally I want Superman back but a showdown with Black Adam being the next film would be a mistake. It has been 5 years since we have checked in with Henry's Superman and even then he was just brought back to life. That is canon in whatever version you believe to be the official canon.

It would make more sense to check in with Clark and Lois first. See what their lives are like now that they have been given a second chance. If they rush into Black Adam vs Superman it takes all that away because fans would want a massive scale showdown. Superman needs to be more like himself before he shares the spotlight with another big character like Black Adam. His characterization in MoS ans BVS has had fans scratching their heads for 9 years now about the choice to almost change him completely.

Neither one of those movies is bad but neither one captured what makes Superman a hero for the world. He always does the right thing without resorting to extreme violence. He always makes time for what people would consider trivial things for a Superhero to do on their daily travels. Of course he remains a symbol of hope that when you need him most he will always be there. He doesn't see himself as above humanity. He sees himself as one of us.

It doesn't seem like Henry Cavill truly got to show us that version of Superman. He never got to show a real range of emotions. He was always brooding and just put in darker toned scenes. Henry is a capable actor who is as close to Kal-El in human form as he will ever get from an actor. He has just never shown that likable side like other projects have. I didn't like his version of Clark. He felt arrogant, disconnected and everything that Clark Kent is never supposed to be.

There are plenty of Superman villains waiting to be adapted. Brainiac. Bizarro. Metallo. Any of them would challenge Superman and give us a true sequel. The tone does have to shift. We need to begin the movie showing Superman doing a bunch of things he would do around the globe then he returns home to his life with Lois. Changing the setting to Smallville even if Lois and Clark don't have kids yet would be a smart move. Perhaps they will be trying and Clark is the forever optimist about it all.

Whatever they do decide it is apparent that what was done prior didn't work for the majority of audiences. Word of mouth surrounding Superman has not been positive unless it has been about the Superman and Lois television series. The cinemas need Superman. The Cinemas need The Man of Steel to have continued success. He is the most recognized symbol anywhere in the world. His big screen adventures truly need to reflect that spirit and heroism. If they don't capitalize on what they have right in front of them it may be time to make massive changes to the character the next time we see him appear in a movie.
