Spoiler Warning: This article contains major spoilers for Maa Behen (2026), including the complete story and ending.

Maa Behen Movie Explained

Maa Behen begins with three women whose lives are already far from peaceful — Rekha and her daughters, Jaya and Sushma.

Rekha lives alone in Adarsh Colony, where she has spent years being judged by neighbors. Jaya is trapped in an unhappy married life and desperately wants a child, while Sushma dreams of becoming famous on social media.

Their already complicated lives take a bizarre turn when Rekha calls both daughters late at night and tells them something unbelievable:

Gupta Ji is lying dead inside her house.

Jaya and Sushma immediately rush to their mother.

Rekha explains that she had invited Gupta Ji over, but things went terribly wrong. According to her, Gupta Ji misbehaved with her and during the struggle he fell.

Believing him to be dead, the three women panic.

Instead of contacting the police, they decide to hide the body.

And that decision creates one problem after another.

Is Gupta Ji Really Dead?

The movie delivers its first major twist while Rekha, Jaya and Sushma are preparing to move Gupta Ji's body.

Suddenly, the body moves.

Gupta Ji isn't dead at all.

He is alive.

What looked like a murder has now become something even more dangerous. The women aren't trying to dispose of a corpse anymore — they have an unconscious man hidden inside the house.

Meanwhile, Gupta Ji's wife and family begin wondering where he has disappeared.

Inspector Maheshwari also becomes involved in the mystery.

Things become particularly dangerous when CCTV footage suggests that Gupta Ji never actually left Adarsh Colony.

That means he must still be somewhere nearby.

Why Did Rekha Invite Gupta Ji?

Rekha hasn't told her daughters the complete truth.

She eventually admits that she had taken money from the wine shop where she worked.

Gupta Ji had seen her.

Fearing that he would expose her, Rekha invited him home to convince him to remain silent.

But after arriving at the house, Gupta Ji allegedly began behaving inappropriately with Rekha, leading to the confrontation.

This revelation makes Jaya increasingly suspicious of her mother.

And then another mystery appears.

Who Demanded ₹5 Lakh Ransom?

Gupta Ji's family suddenly receives a ransom demand.

Someone claims Gupta Ji has been kidnapped and asks for ₹5 lakh in exchange for his safe return.

There is just one problem:

Rekha, Jaya and Sushma have Gupta Ji — but none of them made the ransom call.

So who did?

The women begin suspecting one another.

Rekha already needs money.

Jaya needs around ₹5.5 lakh for her personal situation.

And Sushma has her own secrets.

For a while, the ransom becomes one of Maa Behen's biggest mysteries.

Who Is Sushma's Father?

Another major revelation comes when Rekha secretly leaves the house at night.

Jaya and Sushma follow her and discover that Rekha is meeting a man named Chandu.

Rekha finally reveals that Chandu is Sushma's biological father.

Sushma is meeting her father for the first time, but the emotional reunion quickly becomes disturbing.

Chandu isn't the respectable undercover agent Rekha believed him to be.

He is actually wanted by the police and has repeatedly used Rekha for money.

The revelation destroys Sushma's fantasy about the father she never knew.

But Gupta Ji's problem still isn't over.

Does Jaya Kill Gupta Ji?

During another confrontation, Gupta Ji wakes up.

A struggle begins, and Jaya hits him on the head with a coconut that had earlier been hidden inside the house.

Once again, the women believe Gupta Ji is dead.

But Maa Behen plays the same trick twice.

The following morning, Gupta Ji regains consciousness and somehow reaches his own home.

He appears unable to speak properly, recognize people or remember what happened.

At least, that's what everyone believes.

The truth is very different.

Gupta Ji's Biggest Secret

Gupta Ji eventually contacts Rekha privately.

He reveals that he remembers everything.

His apparent memory loss is an act.

Now he tries to blackmail Rekha.

He knows what the women did to him, and he threatens to send them to jail unless Rekha gives up her house.

The house has always been important because it was connected to an old debt involving Rekha's late husband.

But this time Rekha refuses to surrender.

Instead, the three women create a plan of their own.

How Do Rekha, Jaya and Sushma Defeat Gupta Ji?

The women invite Gupta Ji back to the house while his family is away.

Gupta Ji believes he is still in control.

He makes Rekha, Jaya and Sushma dance and massage him.

What he doesn't realize is that the women are recording everything.

Rekha then contacts Gupta Ji's wife and makes sure she sees him in a compromising situation.

Gupta Ji threatens that releasing the video would also damage the women's reputations.

But that's exactly where his power disappears.

Rekha, Jaya and Sushma have spent their entire lives being judged.

Their reputation has already been attacked countless times.

Gupta Ji, however, has carefully protected his respectable image.

For the first time, he has more to lose than they do.

The women turn society's obsession with reputation against the man who had been using it to control them.

Maa Behen Ending Explained: Who Actually Made the Ransom Call?

The final twist answers the movie's biggest unresolved mystery.

Goldie was behind the ₹5 lakh ransom demand.

Gupta Ji's own daughter knew more than anyone realized.

She had seen enough to understand what was happening and used her father's disappearance as an opportunity to obtain money.

Later, Rekha, Jaya and Sushma see Goldie appearing on television during a music competition.

Goldie reveals that her family wanted her to get married, but she wanted to follow her dreams instead.

The money she used to escape?

The same ₹5 lakh connected to the fake kidnapping.

So the mysterious kidnapper the police had been searching for was actually Goldie herself.

What Does the Ending of Maa Behen Mean?

The ending isn't really about solving a murder.

It is about reputation, freedom and control.

Rekha has spent years being judged because she refused to behave exactly how Adarsh Colony expected a woman to behave.

Jaya finally stands up against her unhappy marriage and refuses to continue silently serving everyone around her.

Sushma begins confronting the truth about her family and her constant desire for outside approval.

Even Goldie chooses her own dream instead of the life her family had planned for her.

And Gupta Ji?

The man who seemed powerful because society respected him suddenly becomes vulnerable when his own reputation is placed at risk.

That reversal is the real victory.

Final Verdict

Maa Behen disguises its social commentary inside a chaotic crime comedy.

At first, the story makes viewers ask a simple question:

Who killed Gupta Ji?

Then Gupta Ji turns out to be alive.

The mystery changes to:

Who demanded the ransom?

And finally, the movie reveals that Goldie engineered the fake kidnapping demand so she could escape and pursue her own ambitions.

The last scenes of Rekha, Jaya and Sushma dancing openly in front of the colony complete their transformation.

People may continue gossiping about them.

But now they simply don't care.

And perhaps that is the biggest twist of Maa Behen: the women don't defeat society by convincing everyone that they are respectable.

They defeat it by refusing to let society decide their worth.
