We know I will watch anything with Elizabeth Olsen in it, I absolutely adore her. So when the series Love and Death dropped on HBO I knew I was going to have to watch it. So here we go with my running commentary and review of the new limited series, Love and Death.

My dear Elizabeth Olsen starts having the hots for a fellow married member of her church. She straight up tells him that she’s very attracted to him and he just says “ok” like a dope. If Lizzie Olsen tells you she’s attracted to you, you say thank you and do whatever she wants. She very formally asks him if he’s interested in having an affair. He kisses her and then runs away like a little bitch! Elizabeth Olsen is too gorgeous to really exist.

So she’s also openly telling her friends that she intends to have an affair. So either she’s really stupid or she trusts her friends literally with her life.

Alan and Candy enter what seems to be a very long period of the time where they are planning their affair. This is so formal, they come up with a list of rules, plan out how it is going to work and set a date for their affair to start.

This affair takes place in a flashback, we are set two years before the bloody opening scene. The first episode ends with Candy taking a shower to wash blood off of her. Now super not sure how we get from sexy affair to murder, but the first episode was very compelling. Elizabeth Olsen is perfect and the premise is quite intriguing so we’ll see how this plays out.

It's very clear that Candy and Allen are developing feelings for each other. These affair meetups are more like couples getaways, very deep and meaningful dates. Yet they made a rule to not let feelings get involved…

Elizabeth Olsen is getting herself type cast as the villain of the story that you simply can’t hate. Between Candy and Wanda this woman plays characters that are terrible people but she is just so damn charismatic and loveable that you can’t hate the character.

Candy admits that she’s having feelings for Allen, that she is at risk of falling in love with him. They keep seeing each other in spite of Candy’s concerns. He seems to be using her to deal with his marriage. He tells her that with her he feels better and that’s helped him and Betty. Weird and gross take but alright bud. Candy is clearly jealous of seeing Allen and Betty together. Pat finally acknowledges Candy’s existence. And of course when Allen is ready for their affair to end he wants it to be over.

Look Candy is a bad person for initiating an affair while married and with a married man. However Allen is 10X worse for just deciding that he had all the power. She wanted to end it and stick to their boundaries and he said no. He realizes that cheating is bad and then he decides to end it after Candy has already fallen for him. He’s controlling and manipulative and selfish. Candy is somewhat of a sociopath for sleeping with Allen and still being close friends with Betty. AND then Allen has the audacity to ask his mistress to babysit his children while he goes to marriage counseling with his wife. Batshit crazy behavior.

Allen gets back from the marriage retreat and doesn't have the balls to actually break it off with Candy so she does it. Though it clearly upsets her.

The most awkward dinner scene ever occurs when Betty invites Pat and Candy over for dinner. Pat then snoops through their room and finds a love letter from Allen to Candy. He asks her friend Sherry about the state of the affair, she then breaks her promise to him and alerts Candy as soon as she can. Like a good friend would. Pat and Candy handle their feelings about her affair and recommit themselves to each other. Betty however still seems wacked out.

I know this is the 80s but all these wives seem stepford levels of crazy. Both of these main women are wacked out and I would cheat on them too. Betty confronts Candy about the affair, and Betty returns with an ax. So clearly episode 5 will center on the murder and I get having at least 2 episodes for the trial and the last episode will be the aftermath and resolution. It's still interesting so far. I will reserve judgment on accuracy until the conclusion of the series.
