He was introduced in the MCU as a villain, and after 10 years and three deaths still rocking in his Disney+ series. Yes, it's the charming god of mischief, who is loved by the fans for his unique energy and character that Tom Hiddleston portrays so.

Apart from being a master manipulator, with an excellent way to get away with his words. Loki is a master in pulling of wondrous feats of magic. But Marvel has kept these on the subtle side, and there were only some instances where he got to use these magical abilities. In this article, we will be listing the amazing abilities that Loki had demonstrated so far in the MCU.

Note- This article is was written after the fourth episode of Loki. If Marvel decides to reveal any new shocking abilities about Loki after this. I will post an updated version of this.

Under-powered Loki

If you're familiar with Loki in the comics, you know that he is a powerful sorcerer who can match up with the likes of doctor strange and scarlet witch. But in the comics instead of Asgardian magic, he learned dark arts from Eldred.

Throughout the movies, Loki is a playful deceiver who only wanted to be truly accepted and loved, Whereas in the comics he is a vengeful villain who earned the "god of evil" title for his deeds. There are several mind-boggling magical abilities of Loki that are only shown in the comics and I will mention them in end.

How magic works for Loki

Characters like Doctor Strange and Wanda acquired their magical powers by training or unlocked them at some point in their life. But Loki's magic is innate, meaning he was born with it. He can use them without chanting or by doing any incantations.

This is because of the fact he was born in the race of magical frost giants, and with his mother Frigga's help he learned Asgardian magic and thus became a master sorcerer in the MCU. Without any further ado, Let's get started.

Astral projection

This is the one trick that Loki uses the most. He can cast projections of himself and others to trick and deceive. While most sorcerers are only able to projects ghost-like projections of themselves. Loki is so powerful that he can make his projected version appear as solid and whole as his actual person.

He can also use the ability to project himself into another location, even quite far away, to speak to someone. He can also project many copies of himself.

We can see him using this trick in all the movies and this is how he faked his death in Thor: The dark world. I think if he had done the same in front of Thanos, he would've survived.

Shape-shifting

Loki can shape-shift into whatever he thinks of. He did this in various movies like when he turned into Captain America and many others while escaping from Asgard. It appears that he did this from a very young age and we know this from the snake trick he did when he and Thor were kids.

Casting illusions

Now, this one is an extension of the above-mentioned ability, and that is to cast illusions on people or things around him.

Loki has done this from time to time; from changing his and Thor's appearance to blend in while visiting New York, to making look like Thor's hand was cut off. He can also manipulate physical objects as he did to his prison cell in Thor: dark world.

Telekinesis

Telekinesis is one of the coolest abilities anyone can have and it is one of Loki's main strengths in the comics, and I have always wondered why Marvel hadn't used this except for that one time wherein The Dark World when Loki learns of Frigga's death and causes all the furniture in his cell to violently fly away from him with one quick clenching of his fists.

But thanks to the Loki series we got to see more scenes where he used telekinesis and the above video here is from the 3rd episode. I love how the new series gave Loki his flair for his magical abilities. I hope we get to see more of this.

He also uses telekinesis on his daggers to increase the impact of his throw.

Concealment

Everyone knows that Thor is terrible in disguising and blending in, like we here in Thor: Ragnarok.

But on the contrary, Loki is quite skillful at this. He can conceal his presence that even the all-seeing gatekeeper Heimdall couldn't see him.

Loki can also hide stuff in plain sight and he uses this to hide his daggers, weapons, tesseract, and many other things.

Now there are two types of concealment that Loki does. One is conjuring stuff out of thin air like does with his daggers. The other one is conjuring things from a pocket dimension, Like when he conjured the 'Casket of the ancient winters' in the first movie and makes it vanish into thin air with a simple gesture. Anyways I love watching him conjuring things in and out of thin air.

Hypnosis and Telepathy

Loki has the ability to mesmerize and hypnotize people, even without the help of the Mind Stone. Like when he hypnotizes Erik Selvig and influenced his actions just by his speech.

As far as his telepathic abilities go, he can look up the memories of others, like he did against Valkyrie and bought up a painful memory of her memory. But his telepathic abilities do have limitations, as he has to touch the person to perform this.

Sylvie holds the upper hand when it comes to enchantment, as she taught all this by herself ,and her charm works much better than Loki's.

Power Blasts

This is my favorite one on this list, and this is something that Loki ought to use more.

While Thor uses heavy blasts of lightning to overpower his enemies. Loki creates magical energy blasts against his enemies and uses them if the situation calls for it.

Even though it's not flashy or powerful like scarlet witch's blasts of red chaos magic, it still is quite helpful to put a decent blow on his opponents.

Teleportation

Like any other sorcerer, Loki is able to transport himself. In the comics, he uses this ability to travel across different realms, whereas in MCU he only has seen him used this to transport himself in small fight scenes. It certainly gives an upper hand against his foes.

Immense strength and durability

Now, this is not entirely a magical attribute of Loki but I need to mention this.

Loki is biologically the son of Laufey, the chief of the frost giants. Thus giving him the abilities like- superhuman density, longevity, and a tick for magic. This combined with the Asgardian sorcery and training, he is a master combatant and possesses the durability of a god.

We have witnessed this in various movies, like when he wasn't affected by the bullets by the shield agents or after the battle of New York when he was only seen with a few scars on his face.

His biggest flex

No, it's not the mesmerizing smile. It's his intellect and the deep knowledge he has in different subjects and topics.

You see why Loki doesn't use his gifts as often as other magic users in the MCU. It's because he knows that his greatest strength is his intellect and words and prefers it to any other ability mentioned above.

This is why I love Loki, he only uses magic to support his schemes and doesn't solely depend on them to get through his enemies. This adds more character and valor to Loki for the hero that he is.

Future of Loki

With the new Disney+ series, Marvel is giving us a bit more into Loki's mind and his persona. It is incredibly exciting to watch each episode knowing that there will something new to expect each Wednesday.

From the first episode, Loki has been smashing and we all can't wait to see what happens in the climax of the show and how it all will wrap up. Hopefully, we will get to see more of Loki's magical abilities as well as his glorious plans to overthrow the TVA.

Other powers of Loki in the comics

Creating dimensional rifts, Energy shields, Levitation, Physical augmentation, Conjuration, Molecular manipulation, Imbuing objects with magic, Cryokinesis and more.

Congratulations you have reached the endpoint, If you liked this one share this with a marvel nerd, or give a heart, Thanks.
