I want to see him come back

With all the news lately of the different Star Wars series in talks, there has been speculation as to whether or not Qui-Gon Jinn will return. People have been especially curious about his potential return in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. However, Liam Neeson, who played Qui-Gon Jinn in The Phantom Menace, said that he has not been asked back yet for Star Wars. Much to the disappointment of many.

Liam Neeson revealed the fact that he has not been asked back to reprise his role as Qui-Gon Jinn in an article of the Collider. He said:

“I’ve done the voice for Qui-Gon Jinn in a couple of the animated versions of it. I can’t remember the names of them. Myself and Sam Jackson did our Jedi Knights for those. I think I did two of them. But on film, I haven’t been approached, no.”

Liam Neeson also said that he hasn’t really been keeping up to date on the Star Wars universe and the movies and series.

“I haven’t really been following them, to be honest. I don’t know if they’ve come to an end. I heard they did a film of Harrison [Ford]’s character, Han Solo, and that there was a bit of trouble with that. What do you think? Are Star Wars fans finished with it?”

The ‘trouble’ that Liam Neeson was most likely talking about was that Solo: A Star Wars Story switched directors halfway through. Ron Howard came in to direct replacing Chris Miller and Phil Lord.

While there may be some fans who are done with Star Wars after there was a lot of controversy over the sequels, for the most part, there is still Star Wars hype. When Disney+ announced an Obi-Wan Kenobi series with Ewan McGregor coming back to reprise his role, the internet erupted. Fans were overjoyed. And there is a lot of hype about the upcoming season 2 of The Mandalorian, set for release on October 30th. The fan base for Star Wars is not dying anytime soon.

While Liam Neeson’s comments suggest that it is unlikely that we will see him in the Obi-Wan series, which many were hoping for, that doesn’t necessarily mean that we won’t ever see Qui-Gon Jinn again. In Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, it was revealed that Qui-Gon lived on after his death as a Force Ghost. We also heard Neeson’s Qui-Gon at the end of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. He was talking to Rey along with several other Jedi from the movies and TV shows, including Obi-Wan, Anakin Skywalker, and Mace Windu.

Fans are still holding out, that despite this news, it doesn’t mean that Qui-Gon Jinn will never be back. There is still a chance, even if it is just as a Force Ghost. While this remains to be see, it is interesting to note that Liam Neeson did not say that he’d never been asked to reprise the role. He just hasn’t been approached to do it. With Disney+ and Star Wars starting on their new phase of Star Wars movies and series, there may still be a chance in the future to see this beloved character.
