Today we will be taking a closer look at The LEGO Movie 2 theme boxed set Unikitty’s Sweetest Friend’s EVER!, set number 70822. This set came out in 2019, has 76 pieces, and was designed for people ages five and up.

While Apocalypseburg is a more mature, grittier, cooler and heckish place to live, the Systar System still holds that young, cute, shiny and poppy atmosphere. Of course, one of the cutest and shiniest members from the original LEGO Movie would become fast friends with the Systar System residents. This set focuses on Unikitty and her new dessert-themed buddies.

Unikitty

As the main character, Unikitty is the star of this set. As a returning character from the first LEGO Movie and the main character in her self-titled spin off cartoon, Unikitty is a familiar build.

The bright 1x1 plates for her paws, bright pink arch for her body and cat tail with light blue sides pattern are pretty standard. Her neck uses a 1x1 yellowish green round tile with a bar and pin holder. I like this piece more than the standard 1x1 round plate that is sometimes used. Assembled, it doesn’t make much of a difference visually, but I like the individual piece better.

The inverted 1x3 tile and other pieces to finish her head are also commonly used for most of Unikitty’s set appearances. She comes with two different 1x1 brick printed face pieces. The Lopsided Smile was available here and in the Lucy’s Builder Box. The wide-open mouth smile piece was only found in this set.

Ice Cream Cone

Ice Cream Cone might not be an original name, but he is a creative character built from lots of unique pieces. His cone body was created using an inverted 2x2 cone piece and 2x2 round brick with pin holes. The waffle printing on these medium nougat pieces make them unique to this set. The turquoise lapel, white shirt and gold tie limit the bricks' use, but that waffle pattern on the cone piece could be more useful for MOC work.

The original face printing on the bright pink 3x3x1 1/3 dome top looks amazing. The crooked smile makes this ice cream character’s happy personality shine through, and the sprinkles on top are a nice touch. The whipped cream and sprinkle pattern is continued onto a 2x2 inverted radar dish to make it look like the toppings are piled high. The printing on this piece makes it original to this set and another great potential piece for MOC work.

To finish this design off, a red technic ball joint was used for a cherry on top. Rather than just giving us a red piece, LEGO put a white dot on it, making yet another original piece for this character.

The arms are the only pieces used for making this character that are not unique. I’m not counting the translucent clear inverted radar dish, since that was used to stand the character up and is not actually part of the character’s body. The character comes with a white cup for his sweet, hot beverage. I hope he doesn’t melt.

Chocolate Bar

LEGO Unikitty's Sweetest Friends EVER! 70822 Chocolate Bar

Chocolate Bar is my favorite character in this set. None of the pieces used to build the character are unique, but the design is creative genius.

The reddish brown ingots give the character amazing texture and make it look more like a chocolate bar, with pieces of chocolate ready to be broken off. To create that chunk bitten off the corner, a 2x2 cut corner wedge plate was placed behind the ingots. The effect is perfect.

Red plates were used to represent the wrapper of the chocolate bar. To get that peeled-down look of an open candy bar, a 4x2 left wedge plate was placed in front.

The eyes for the character are great and give an alien vibe. To have the eyeballs stick out far enough in the 2x2 bottom dome piece, the eye tiles were placed on two round plates.

The blue feet consisted of a 1x2 tile placed on a 1x2 plate with bar handle on the end. It was then attached to the red 1x2 plate with clip on end, found at the bottom of the character’s body. The large feet were needed for balance, but they remind me of those little wind-up toys.

Tea Trolley

The tea trolley was a nice build, but personally I would have rather seen another dessert-themed character. It didn’t give us any unique pieces or offer creative build ideas.

The wheels were put under a 2x4 medium azure plate. The sides were then built up using white 1x2 round plates with open studs. A pearl gold 1x2 plate with bar handle was used for the handle to push the tea cart around. It was then loaded with lots of yummy treats.

A dark pink teapot and white cup is there to quench the thirst of our sweet friends. A triple layer chocolate cake was built using 2x2 round plates and a tile with open stud. The 1x1 round tile with strawberry printing was used to top our cake off.

There is not enough room on the cart for our last dessert, so it’s built separately. A small cupcake was built using a tan 1x1 round plate and a pink 1x1 round plate with vertical swirl. It was then placed on a 2x2 medium azure tile with open stud to act as a plate.

LEGO Unikitty's Sweetest Friends EVER! 70822 Complete Set

Conclusion

When the LEGO Movie 2 sets were announced, my first reaction was that there were too many. It was overwhelming. Of the 41 LEGO Movie 2 sets, I wanted three: Benny’s Space Squad, Ultra Katty and this one.

The characters were fun and whimsical, the builds were creative, and it came with a lot of useful pieces for MOC work. It does suffer from the higher price-to-piece ratio that licensed themes have, but its battle pack feel gives you a nice sampling of the more obscure characters found in the Systar System.
