Today we will be looking at the LEGO Millennium Falcon Polybag Promotional set. This set came out in 2017, has 20 pieces and was designed for people 6 to 12.

Target gave this set away for free, when you purchased 25 dollars or more on LEGO Star Wars sets. However, when I went to Target to get the Desert Skiff, a $29.99 set, it was coincidentally on sale for 24.99 and did not qualify for the 25 dollar minimum. I then noticed that all the sets priced a little over 25 dollars were now on sale for 24.99 or less forcing people to spend significantly more than the minimum purchase needed to get this “free” set. I bought nothing. When I came back the next week, the racks were filled with these sets for 4.99. I laughed and though Target got what they deserved. Months later I randomly found piles of these bags put on an end cap for a $1.98. I finally picked one up for my collection. At that price I should probably have bought a couple extra.

The Build

There has already been over a dozen different LEGO Millennium Falcon sets released when this promotional set came out, so the vehicle itself is nothing special. While I appreciated the use of a round brick and clear tile piece to create a new technique in building the side cockpit, it felt a little too long and didn’t blend into the model. I did like how they created the core of the ship. The Travis Brick on its side and standard 1X1 brick put in the hole was a creative way to get that slender appearance of the ship and have the empty gap in front. That gap is an even more important feature now that we know it used to conatain a central escape pod. The engines in the back are simple but well done.

The Stand

For me, the best part of this set is the stand and the only reason I wanted it for my collection. It was this piece that made me wish I would have picked up a couple extra. It is currently worth more than what I paid for the entire set. I love the look of the white plate with Star Wars printed boldly across the front. The clear pieces used to lift the model up and create the effect of the model flying through the air makes the display even better. For those people who like to build their own mini Star Wars MOCs, it's a great way to display your work. Years later, this remains the only set to contain the white 4X4 modified tile with studs on the edge that has the LEGO Star Wars Logo printed on it.

Packaging

I usually don’t spend a lot of time on the packaging, but this polybag deserves special attention, because Target tried to sell this 20 piece set for the same price or higher than other LEGO Polybags that contain more pieces. The set came in a plain, clear plastic bag that sealed across the top with glue. While this made resealing the package easy, it looks cheap.

Instructions

Rather than a colorful instruction manual, you got what looked like instructions printed on glossy paper from any home office printer. I would not be surprised if that is exactly what Target did.

Conclusion

The packaging is horrible, the model is okay, but the stand is amazing. Since the ship build contains no special pieces, chances are you can easily build this Millenium Falcon with the LEGO parts you have in your collection. The cheap packaging is worthless and you can print the instructions with your home printer. However, the stand alone is currently selling for over $3.00 on Bircklink.com. That stand is the whole reason to get the set. Since I got this set for less than $2.00, I am happy with my purchase.
