LEGO Minecraft Steve and Baby Panda Polybag Set 30672 Review
A LEGO Minecraft Polybag Review

Today we will be taking a closer look at the LEGO Minecraft polybag Steve and Baby Panda set number 30672. This set came out in 2024, has 35 pieces, and was designed for people 6 and up.

The story behind this set is “Steve has a cake to feed the cute baby panda. But will the panda prefer to nibble on the nearby bamboo?” You can cut the suspense with a knife. Or use that knife to open this fun little polybag that gives us a small Bamboo Jungle biome from Minecraft. The only biome in the game that has pandas.
Steve Minifigure

Despite his humble beginnings of being the first default player character with no backstory, he has become the star and unofficial mascot of the Minecraft franchise. Which is why this exact figure has been used since 2014 and appears in 28 sets so far. The dark purple legs with Dark Azure torso is our hero's default clothing. LEGO made sure to include the pixelated light nought neck pattern. I am surprised LEGO gives him a long sleeve shirt, instead of the short sleeves we see in the game. LEGO changed the head from the standard minifigure to a cube, matching the Minecraft artstyle, but we now get a nose. LEGO did an amazing job replicated Steve’s face. Since it’s a lot of squares, that’s right up LEGO’s expertise.
Cake or DEATH!!!

The cake Steve wants to give the panda is built using a 2X2 dark orange plate with a 2X2 printed white tile piece on top. The tile with the red square pattern creating the Minecraft cake has appeared in 6 sets so far. It’s a great match to the one found in the video game. Since pandas are known to move toward dropped cake in the game, maybe Steve has a chance.
Baby Panda

The baby panda is why I decided to buy this polybag. These adorable mobs were added into the game back in 2018. Minecraft collaborated with the World Wildlife Fund to raise awareness about the importance of panda conservation. In 2020 LEGO introduced their first Minecraft panda in the Panda Nursery set. They appeared again in 2023 with The Panda Haven set and this set would be the third time.
The head LEGO created for the panda is used for both the adult and baby builds. The use of white black and grey perfectly replicates the animals found in the game. Since the heads are the same, it’s the body that let us know the age of our animal. Baby Pandas stand 2 bricks high. Because they are only 2 studs wide, the legs are created using 2 1X2 black plates attached to the front and back of a 2X3 white plate. The body is then built up using plates and tiles. A 1X2 black plate with a horizontal side clip is used near the bottom front to attach the neck. The neck is a black 1X1 round plate with a bar handle. The head is then attached to the stud. While not difficult, because the connection point is deep inside the cubed head, this is not a mindless connection, you need to focus on putting the headpiece in place. Everything else in building the panda could be done blindfolded.
Bamboo "Forest"

For the polybag’s story and setting, you get to build a single bamboo plant. A green 4X4 plate was used for the base of the build and simulate the grassy ground. You then get to create a single grass block using a 2X2 reddish brown brick with a 2X2 green jumper plate. The bamboo is growing out of this grass block. Since bamboo is classified as a grass and not a tree, there is a lot of grass in this set. The bamboo stands 4 bricks and 2 plates high. LEGO uses mostly lime green for its bamboo with a dark tan plate to add some color. It’s interesting that LEGO replicated a real bamboo plant that has brown in it, instead of Minecraft bamboo that uses different shades of green. A 1X1 plate with a thick ring is used to create the smaller leaf near the bottom of the plant. The larger leaves on top are a 1X1 plate connected to the bottom of a 1X2 plate. Four leaves are then put all around a travis brick. All the techniques used to build this bamboo are standard in the different LEGO Minecraft sets where this plant appears.

Conclusion
This was a great polybag for both an introduction to the Minecraft theme or for those who are building a larger LEGO Minecraft world. Steve is probably the weakest part of this set, since most people will already have him. However, the panda is only available in two other larger sets. This is the only set to have the baby panda and not their adult parent. But since both pandas use the same head piece you can easily create an adult with the common pieces you probably already have in your collection. When building larger MOCs you can never have too much plant life. The bamboo plant gives us that plant and some great lime colored pieces.
