Today we will be taking a closer look at the LEGO Harry Potter Quidditch Lesson set number 30706.  This set came out in 2025, has 27 pieces, and was designed for people 6 and up.

The Story

This set is based on the scene from the first Harry Potter movie, where Oliver Wood teaches Harry Potter and the audiences about Quidditch. This two minute expositional sequence goes through the rules, equipment and general idea of the game and still manages to be entertaining.

Harry Potter Minifigure

LEGO Quidditch Lesson 30706 Harry Potter Minifigure

Harry Potter is not playing Quidditch yet, so we get him in his regular clothing. This is a unique Harry Potter minifigure, but none of his pieces are original. The short dark bluish grey legs piece and black messy thick hair are commonly used on Harry Potter and other minifigures across many themes. Even the dual sided head piece with the lightning bolt scar on the forehead can be found on 22 Harry Potter minifigures. I guess the happy lopsided grin or scared open mouth expressions are appropriate for many of the situations Harry finds himself in. The head piece was created in 2018 for the theme’s relaunch and is still going strong today. It’s the torso piece printed to look like a black sweater that makes this an original Harry Potter Minifigure. This torso with dark bluish gray lines creating the collar, stripes and folds of the sweater was also used for the Oliver Wood minifigure in the Hogwarts Castle: Flying Lessons set released the same year as this minifigure.

Personally, I think this sweater looks more like the one Oliver was wearing in the scene than Harry’s dark blue sweater.  Either way, it’s still a great looking minifigure and an excellent generic look for people doing custom minifigure work.

Beater's Bat

Instead of the typical wand, Harry was given a Beater’s Bat to hit the Bludger that flies at him during his orientation. The Beater’s Bat is built by putting a dark bluish gray bulb piece into a dark brown minifigure telescope. It’s simple, but highlights how you can create something great with only a few LEGO pieces.  That is probably the micro builder in me talking.

The Statue

LEGO Harry Potter Quidditch Lesson 30706 Statue

The main build for this set is the statue that Harry Potter hits the bludger past and then the ball comes right back through to try and hit Harry.  While that statue is on top of the castle wall, this small12 piece build puts the statue on a small pedestal. The base stands 2 bricks high and is built on a green 2X6 double round corner plate. The use of a masonry profile brick, 2 log profile bricks and slopes capture the look of a stone castle wall, but its height and green base solidify it as a lawn statue and not part of a building's architecture. The statue itself is technically a minifigure. It is always fun to get these statues with the mono color minifigure heads and lower body skirts. The torso that uses light bluish grey lines to make it appear like flowing robes carved into stone looks awesome. While this torso has only been in circulation since 2023, it can already be found in 9 sets and 12 minifigures.  I’m a bit disappointed that the statue was not given a hair piece or even a beard to match the statue seen in the movie. A little bit more detail would have been nice.  At least LEGO did include 2 flat silver greatswords with thick crossguards for the figure to hold over its head. Seeing the bludger fly between these swords twice was a great visual moment in the film and sets up how dangerous a bludger can be.

Quidditch Supply Chest

To carry the balls needed for Quidditch, we get a reddish brown treasure chest. The bottom section of this crate with bar handles on the sides, wood paneling and a lock looks amazing. You can see why this piece originally created in 1989 is still around today. The flat lid with two studs on top has only been around since 2022, but works better as the top to a trunk, as opposed to a treasure chest.  Plus, the studs allow pieces to be securely attached to the top.

Inside the chest, we get the quaffle and golden snitch.  The winged sports ball on a bar was specifically designed for the Harry Potter theme and has been around since in 2018. The quaffle is represented by a dark red technic ball joint. This piece was introduced in 2021 and is often used for sports equipment.

Bludger Blaster

LEGO Harry Potter Quidditch Lesson 30706 Bludger Launcher

While the Quidditch supply chest is supposed to be holding two bludgers, the instructions did not have you put them in the trunk. Instead, the two dark brown tile pieces used for these dangerous balls were grouped with a small mini blaster. This bazooka is placed on a green 2X2 inverted radar dish to give it support and pretend it’s on grass. While not a part of the physical scene, it does add playability to the set and lets builders shoot the tile piece or bludgers at Harry Potter. If you want a bit more of a challenge, maybe between the two swords being held by the statue.

Final Thoughts

I love this small bag set.  While no pieces are unique, we get a lot of fun pieces in an inexpensive set. The chest with all its contests and the statue are my favorite parts. I like that LEGO was able to give us a new Harry Potter minifigure, despite his character appearing in hundreds of sets. The mini blaster made sure this set has playability for kids.
