Welcome back for another LEGO review. Today we will be taking a closer look at the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes–themed polybag Doctor Strange’s Interdimensional Portal set number 30652. This set came out in 2023, has 44 pieces, and was designed for people aged six and up.

The set is technically packaged as The Infinity Saga and came out close to the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness movie, but the interdimensional portal could be associated with any storyline with Doctor Strange in it. An Inter-Dimensional Portal allows travel between two locations in time and space. This mythical wormhole is Strange’s favorite form of travel, and we can constantly see him using it. Who can blame him; it works better than a Star Trek transporter.

These portals are often opened by Masters of the Mystic Arts using Sling Rings, but they can be created using other types of magic or scientific devices. The set itself has Doctor Strange in a nondescript room, probably in the Sanctum Sanctorium, with a portal opening up to a city skyline.

Doctor Strange Minifigure

This exact Doctor Strange minifigure has appeared in four sets so far, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets put in a few more before it is retired. Unlike Iron Man, whose armor went through drastic changes as he upgraded it between and during films, Doctor Strange’s costume changes are more subtle. For that reason, it’s important for LEGO to be as detailed as they can with his printing. They did not disappoint.

The lines and shading used to create the texture of Doctor Strange's thick blue robes are phenomenal. The time put into drawing the details of his intricate belt included all the important objects. The Eye of Agamotto worn around his neck is unmistakable.

The head and hairpiece capture Benedict Cumberbatch’s appearance in the films so perfectly, you could probably pick these pieces out as Doctor Strange even without any of the other minifigure pieces. The head has two facial expressions. We get to choose between a confident grin and an angry scowl.

The piece I love the most is the Cloak of Levitation. I have the original Doctor Strange Minifigure that came with a cloth cape. While it looked nice as an article of clothing, it didn’t capture the magical cloak that had consciousness of its own. The soft rubbery plastic used for the Cloak of Levitation brought the character to life. You can visualize the piece floating in the air by itself and acting independently from its master.

For even more magical powers, he came with two translucent orange 2x2 inverted radar dishes for his magical energy and two translucent clear 1x1 round plates with bar handles on a long stem to connect the magical force to his hands.

The Room

The build is set in a small section of a larger room. The entire scene uses a dark bluish grey 6x6 rounded corner plate as its base. While no actual information is given on our location, I believe it is in the Sanctum Sanctorum.

There is no furniture, but we do get a purple potion bottle built using a translucent purple minifigure head, a translucent clear 1x1 tile with bar and pin holder, and a round 1x1 pearl gold plate. It’s this magical potion that makes me believe we are inside Doctor Strange’s home. The only other item in the room is a box. This 2x2 dark tan brick with four cheese wedge slopes on top to represent the opening flaps is a common build in many LEGO sets.

Interdimensional Portal

The set is named for the interdimensional portal, and it’s the main reason I bought it. The portal was built using four translucent orange 4x4 Macaroni Wide Round Corner tile pieces joined together with four dark orange 1x2 round plates with open studs.

The same concept was used for the Sanctum Santorum set 76218. These two sets are, at this time, the only places you can get these translucent orange pieces. However, those translucent orange round corner tiles were placed directly on the wall of the building, while this set built the portal as an independent piece.

I LOVE that the portal is its own build. By having it separated, people can easily place this portal on the side of objects or floating in midair for their MOC and stop-motion work. The first thing I did with this set was create a spinning portal ring in front of a green screen for me and others to use in their LEGO videos. The portal was put on the set by attaching it to an orange 1x2-1x2 inverted bracket plate and then securing it with a dark bluish grey 30 1x2x2/3 slope piece in front.

City Skyline

Behind the portal we can see a city skyline. As a micro builder, I appreciate how skilled the LEGO design team is in their ability to create an elaborate backdrop with only four different types of pieces.

Three tan headlight bricks and three translucent blue 1x1 bricks were stacked and turned in different directions to make them look like completely different styles of buildings. I love the quadruple convex pyramid piece used for the roofs of the two end buildings. It’s always nice to get more of these pieces for my own micro builds.

The translucent blue bricks do a great job of representing those glass skyscrapers we see all over modern cities. The 1x1 medium azure plates add some nice color contrast to make the buildings look taller and more textured. The single dark tan cheese wedge slope near the center building creates the illusion of that uneven skyline where none of the building quite match. These buildings were put along a 1x4 plate that snaps on to the back of the bracket being used to hold up the portal.

Conclusion

LEGO Doctor Strange's Interdimensional Portal polybag 30652 Complete Set

This is definitely my favorite licensed theme polybag that I own. That includes all the superheroes, Star Wars, Harry Potter, and a bunch more. It might be my favorite polybag of all time. Still considering that one.

I had originally planned on filming and then selling this set, but now I think it’s going to be part of my permanent collection. The Doctor Strange minifigure is packed with amazing detail and can easily be used for MOC work based on the movies or comic books. The Cloak of Levitation being a separate LEGO piece instead of a wardrobe accessory is great for fans who recognize the cloak as an actual character and not a simple prop piece. As of now, it is only in five sets.

The detached portal build gives us even rarer pieces to use in MOC work, and it's a great set piece for people wanting to work Doctor Strange’s magic into their own creations. The entire set looks nice, and its compact design allows for it to be easily displayed.
