Layer3 CUBEs: Hitting 2 Airdrops with 1 Stone!!

Review of CUBE feature launched by Layer3

In this post I will talk about why I think the launch of CUBEs by Layer3 platform is a strong indication of an airdrop coming in the near future. CUBE credentials have been launched now in collaboration with BASE chain and we already know that BASE is expected to do a airdrop sometime this year and it is expected to be a huge airdrop in the league of zkSync and Linea.

If you have already been grinding for BASE airdrop then it will give you an advantage for a bigger allocation and if you not interacted with BASE yet then it is a good opportunity to get started.

Why Do I Think Layer3 will do an Airdrop Soon?

In case you are not familiar with Layer3 let me start with a brief introduction. Layer3 is a platform that offers several quests in collaboration with different projects like Arbitrum, Optmism, Avalanche, Base Linea, zkSync etc. In the past people who did quests regularly on their platform got really nice airdrop allocations from Arbitrum.

In their model you would have noticed that they are ver similar to Galxe and it makes them a close competitor of Galxe. At the moment Layer3 lags behind Galxe in user base and popularity. One indicator of this is that Layer3 has about 480K followers on Twitter/X whereas Galxe has more than 1.2M. Yeah, Galxe is pretty huge. I personally prefer the user interface of Layer3 and feel that Galxe recently has started promoting a lot of quests that are just farming the farmers and making us do a lot of unnecessary grinding with little to no rewards.

Another point I don’t like about Galxe is that their quests make you like, tweet, retweet, quote tweet multiple times for points. Layer3 on the other hands keep tweeting optional so if you don’t like that you can skip it.

Gale already has it’s native GAL token and I think Layer3 has reached the point where they will launch their own token soon. TO make sure they remain competitive to Galxe they will have to give a big airdrop to their regular users. Layer3 has more than 500K active users on their platform and they already have tiers where they differentiate users into separate bands as per activity levels. They launch exclusive quests for users at a higher level than level 20 and level 30. I am sure that level will play a role in the airdrop allocation. If you have not been active yet on Layer3 then I will recommend you to start an account an get started now so you are able to raise your level a bit before the airdrop.

Another key consideration will be the CUBEs and GEMs which I will explain now.

What are the CUBEs and GEMs launched by Layer3?

Just like there specific NFTs and OATs being awarded by projects for completing quests, CUBEs are credentials that are minted to store the transaction details linked to a particular quest. Layer3 has started rewarding CUBE rewards with some of the new quests. Mainly for the BASE blockchain quests as CUBE can currently only be minted on BASE but they have mentioned that inter-chain operability will be incorporated in the future.

Layer3 has also started giving another native reward called GEMs for completing quests with CUBE minting. These GEMs already have a marketplace where you can use them to get boosts like reduced bridging fees and transactions costs. There are expected to be further utilities in the future.

It is evident that collecting more CUBEs and GEMs will have a key role in getting a good allocation in the future airdrop that Layer3 will do for it’s users.

Another big incentive for collecting more CUBEs and GEMs is that currently they are supported for minting only by BASE blockchain so the more you collect the better allocation you will get for BASE airdrop. It can be a worthwhile effort as BASE is expected to be one of the biggest airdrop this year along with zkSync and Linea.

Considering that so many projects have launched airdrop related quests and it is impossible to find time and money for all it is important to be selective about the projects. I have a feeling that CUBEs will be a good use of the grind put in and transaction fees on BASE right now are very low so I am definitely going to keep this as a regular weekly activity in my airdrop hunt this year.

Cheers,

Sam
