General Hospital fans have been wondering what happened to Kelly Monaco since she was let go from her role as Sam McCall. Her firing sent shock waves, and fans were stunned. The actress has promised updates on several situations but did not follow through, leaving her followers wondering why.

Monaco promised details about her firing from the role she played for two decades. No information ever came. She also stated she would reveal details about how GH treated Billy Miller, who died by suicide, and that did not happen either. 

After leaving GH, Monaco promised a podcast, Bad Bunnies, with Shannon Moakler, but it was scrapped without a reason. The actress did not explain and disappeared from social media.

Kelly joined General Hospital as Sam in 2003. The character quickly became one of the most recognizable leading women on the ABC soap. Sam was originally introduced as a grifter and reformed bad girl. 

Over the years, she became involved in major Port Charles families and had romances with Jasper Jacks (Ingo Rademacher), Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), Jason Morgan (Steve Burton), and Drew Cain (Cameron Matheson).

Concerned fans desired answers after the actress was fired in 2024 but none came. Unfounded rumors went across the Internet that she was being stalked and could not find work because GH execs had blackballed her.

Monaco’s followers waited for news about her firing, about Miller, and a Bad Bunnies update, but the actress remained silent. Moakler eventually said that the Podcast would not happen because her friend was dealing with something, but she did not elaborate.

Kelly did give a brief update regarding her and her mother's recent birthdays.

"Today I turned 50! There's no place like home… coach @__monaco getting me back in shape," she wrote, referring to her home state of Pennsylvania, where her social account indicates she has been spending some time. On September 12, Monaco shared a pic of herself on a boat with her mom, wishing her a happy 70th birthday.

Now, Kelly has announced her latest situation on Instagram. The soap vet says she has been sober for six months. She did not give details of her drug of choice, although her statement suggests alcohol.

She did not say how long she had been dealing with substance use or the method she is using to remain substance-free. This will lead to some drawing their own conclusions and wondering if she may have been under the influence while working at General Hospital.

What led to the actress being six months and seven days sober? Did the death of Miller and being fired lead her into addiction? Unless Kelly decides to speak up, we shall never know. What matters is that she found sobriety and has decided to share that with her followers.

Some General Hospital spoilers continue to suggest that Monaco might return, but that does not seem likely. There were rumors that she was going to be hired by The Young and the Restless, but that did not happen.

The actress was bullied a lot during COVID-19. Some fans criticized her hairstyle when she wore bangs, and others made disparaging remarks when she shared a photo on social media where she was not wearing makeup.
