The Walt Disney Company owns the most successful film franchise in cinema history, something Warner Bros. can only dream about. There are already over 25 films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with a total budget of $23 billion. Its lowest-rated film, Thor: The Dark World, was released in 2013, and despite a $170 million budget, made $644.8 million. Eternals is now officially the worst Marvel film ever, thus Thor should move over.

Eternals premiered in Los Angeles on October 18, with a theatrical release in the United States set for November 5 as part of Marvel's Phase Four. Early screenings are causing a stir on the internet. Unfortunately, being one of the most well-known films in the industry, Eternals is receiving some of the worst reviews ever for a Marvel film.

Eternals has the lowest average of recommendations for any Marvel Cinematic Universe picture – only 57 percent, based on 148 reviews – according to Rotten Tomatoes, a review aggregation website for film and television. Given that the film's approval rating lingered at 75% at one time before plummeting to 60%, it appears that the number of fans and critics who are displeased with the picture is growing.

Naturally, the higher the amount of unfavorable reviews, the lower the film's score. Prior to Eternals, the lowest score for an MCU film was 66 percent for Thor: The Dark World. The Thor sequel managed to recoup 290 percent of its budget, proving that critical acclaim has little bearing on box office returns. Occasionally, the studio takes advantage of the fandom's expectations. Venom, for example, received positive reviews from audiences but was panned by critics, while returning 637 percent of its budget ($856 million vs. $116 million). However, despite the substantial improvement noted by critics, its sequel, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, which was the eighth highest-grossing picture of 2021, received mixed reviews from fans.

Eternals is expected to gross between $67 million and $92 million in its first weekend in the United States, according to BoxOffice Pro, a company that follows the business and provides earnings forecasts. Mixed movie reviews are affecting social media opinion toward the film, resulting in a 12 percent dip from the website's previous projection. Even so, the mid-credits and post-credits scenes that foreshadow the franchise's future, or at least one of its many branches, make it a memorable experience.

In the end, considering how spectacular 2018's Infinity War and 2019's Endgame were, Marvel movies have a higher threshold than most other films, so the Eternals' seemingly low score could simply signify that the film is "just alright," and a decent weekend activity. The film Eternals is set to hit theaters on November 5th. When it occurs, the fandom will have the opportunity to develop their own conclusions based on their own personal experiences. Who knows, perhaps the rating will soar. It wouldn't be the first time in cinema history that a film triumphed over its critics after its first release.
