Is Aegon's Dragon Still Alive in House of the Dragon?

Aegon Targaryen is currently traveling with Larys, who is now considered dead by his half-sister, Rhaenyra, making it easy for him to be on the run. He was almost captured by a group of knights serving Rhaenyra, but he was luckily spared when his own people cut down these knights, freeing Aegon and Larys from a possible death or capture.

The two of them ending up finding the body of Sunfyre, the dragon that belonged to Aegon. His dragon had gone down when he brought Sunfyre to a fight to help out Cole and Aemond, but his own brother attacked both of them, to ensure that Aegon would no longer be in power on the throne. Larys had to convince Aegon to leave behind his dragon's body, because a group of dangerous men were coming off threatening to Larys, and he wanted to get away before they changed their minds.

Aegon kept on insisting to Larys that his dragon is still alive, but Larys chalked it up to possible denial that the king refused to believe his friend was dead. They were spared once again, and before Aegon left his dragon, he took a piece of the dragon with him, a scale that belonged to his body.

The duo is now stuck with a camp of people, where Aegon must now live the life of a poor man, being forced to listen to the orders of men, while struggling for scrabs of food. Aegon is also getting bullied by the men, because of his spoiled past self, back at King's Landing, and it's the perfect karma for his character, after he bullied Aemond for years.

But I have a crazy theory that Aegon's dragon is still alive.

I feel that Aegon was indeed not delusional, when he claimed to his friend that Sunfyre was still alive.

I feel that it does take a lot to kill a dragon, and from what we saw with the dragon fights so far in House of the Dragon, it pretty much requires full on mutilation for the dragons to actually die.

From the fights or deaths of the dragons I have seen in the show so far, the dragons all got killed by either getting severely wounded by each other, or by a human made weapon that pierced their body.

Sunfrye did get badly beaten up in his brutal fight against Aemond's dragon and an ally of Rhaenyra, but compared to the other dragons that have died, Sunfyre did not sustain super brutal wounds like the other ones did.

I think that Sunfyre is currently in a sort of hibernation. I do not understand how dragons work, (since they are obviously fictional lol) but I think the dragon could be recovering from his wounds, and once he wakes up, he will come for Aegon.

Another reason why I think this is going to happen, is because I think the show would have killed off Aegon, if this theory wasn't possible. Why else would he now be on the run, end up finding his dragon again, and then claim to Larys that his dragon is still alive?

The show is not done with his character for a reason.

And what two specific vendettas does he have right now?

He wants to kill his half-sister for taking the Iron Throne from him.

He wants to go after Aemond for taking down both Aegon and Sunfyre.

He is just going to want revenge after this, and he will be ready with Sunfyre, and the two of them will most likely be filled with rage.

Whatever is going to happen, I think Aegon is going to be a part of the war in some way.
