Introduction Time!
Just a small peek at the mess I am.
Hello out there! My name is Jessica, but you can call me Jess. Hmm, where should I begin? I suppose I should start by saying I'm a bit of a mess and well, a lot weird. I'm a creativity junkie, I love anything to do with making art. Drawing, sewing, sculpting and all that fun stuff. I've been drawing for as long as I can remember, but around high school I discovered this completely amazing thing called anime. And what does that have to do with all this? One word, cosplay. I have a major obsession with both anime and cosplay.
My first obsession, Anime. The thing that started it all. I love watching all the crazy, silly, dramatic and thrilling things that go on in an anime series or movie. I won't lie, some of the stories are a bit on the bad side but I love the art style. I love all the Japanese culture that gets brought into the backgrounds, the stories and even the clothes they wear. The Studio Ghibli movies are among my most favorite movies. Some anime movies with both a beautiful art style and story are Howl's Moving Castle, Your Name and (one of my sons favorites) My Neighbor Totoro. If you haven't seen them yet I would highly recommend watching one or all of these.
Along with the stories and the art work, anime is really good for the music and the over all experience. Some songs are so cute you can't help but smile and dance when you hear them. Some are just really good songs you might even want to add to your playlist. You get to experience the thrill of beginning a new show or movie. The sadness of finishing a really amazing series and realizing there are no more episodes to enjoy. The challenge of trying to find the next thing to watch. Do you watch a movie, a short series or something with more than one season? And what genre should you chose this time? The choices are almost endless.
My second obsession, Cosplay. This only threw me deeper into the rabbit hole. I've always found Halloween to be my favorite holiday. I loved dressing up and later found I loved to be the one to make the costumes I wore. When I discovered cosplay, it was like finding out it could be Halloween whenever I wanted. All the conventions you could go to, or even just planning a photo shoot in a costume to show it off made that possible. Not only is it wonderful to feel that accomplishment of making something amazing, but seeing all the different costumes that other people at conventions have put together is so satisfying.
In my experience the cosplay community is open, welcoming and so incredibly supportive to one another. I've seen complete strangers work together to fix someone's costume malfunction or just laugh and chat about the shows and characters they love. I've seen some pretty amazing costumes that look like they came straight out of the show it's from. but of course, like every thing else in this world, it's not perfect. I've heard of some people having some pretty bad experiences at conventions, and its also very possible that it's just not for you. We all still love you anyways.
Well, it's time to say goodbye for the day. I hope that you enjoyed this post and that you come back to check out more as I add things. There may not be a rhyme or reason to when I post at first but once I get the hang out things a bit more regularly. Hope to see you next time! Have a wonderful, amazing day!
