Internet trolls attack Kit Shapiro because they don't believe she is black

Online haters assumed Eartha Kit adopted her daughter

Looks can be deceiving

Actress Eartha Kitt has said that her mother was of African American and Cherokee heritage and was raped by the son of the owner of the farm where she worked. Thus, Kitt was part African, Cherokee, and white. Her daughter Kitt Shapiro's father was white and Kitt looks white. Shapiro owns her heritage and was proud of her mother but recently online attacked her on TikTok.

It seems that some people do not believe Eartha was Kitt's biological mother and have assumed she was adopted. Shapiro says this has baffled her that people are questioning her ethnicity and think she is lying. I have a younger cousin who like Kitt looks white and has Caucasian hair. Her father is a black male and her mother is a light brown black woman.

DNA comes through the generations

This young lady's maternal grandmother like Eartha was the product of her own mother being raped by the white male she worked for. People have accused my cousin's mom of cheating or bringing the wrong baby home from the hospital but the white genes came down through the family line.

I recall the movie Mandinga (not Mandingo) where a slave owner raped a young black girl. When her baby was born snow white the older slave women knew the mistress of the house would take out her anger on the child and not her husband. The women bundled the baby and placed her on the doorstep of a young preacher and his wife.

This girl grew up believing she was white and married a white man. When she gave birth her own child was black and her husband assuming she had cheated with a black man poisoned her. These things do happen so the haters and troller need to be educated. My deceased brother married a white woman and their children look more white than biracial. One of his daughters has a little girl by a white man.

If this child is not told her grandfather was African American and she marries white she could possibly have children who look black and there may be problems. My brother's children broke the connection with my side of the family after my grandmother died but the black genes are in their DNA.

Kitt Shapiro was devastated by the online attacks

Kitt Shapiro says that for most of her life her ethnicity was not a big deal because her mother was famous. She says now the Internet trolling has become too much to bear. Atlantic Black Starr quotes her as saying: “It is amazing,” “We all know we’ve been victims of some type of trolling or nastiness online and people. They just assume that because I don’t, as I mentioned in the TikTok, look the way they think you should look then you can’t possibly be who you say you are.”

During an interview with Tameron Hall Kitt said she was “accepted” back then because her mom was a famous entertainer. No one really noticed or talked about her complexion, but her mother always did.

It's time to look beyond color

There is no doubt many people in this world like my cousin and Kitt Shapiro who do not reflect their true racial identity. My paternal grandfather was a very dark-complexioned black male who said his father was a full-blooded Cherokee Indian (today we say Native American).

My grandfather did not look in any way like there was Native blood in him. Perhaps it's time we consider what Dr. Martin Luther King said and judge by the content of the heart and not skin color because complexion can be very deceiving.
