Indrajaal Movie Review: Story, Cast, OTT Release and Is It Worth Watching?

Indian cinema has always found interesting ways to combine mythology, mystery and adventure. Indrajaal attempts something similar by taking viewers into a dangerous forest where an ancient treasure appears only once every twelve years.

He joins a group that includes forest officers, hunters and other people interested in reaching the hidden gold. Initially, the mission feels like an exciting treasure-hunting expedition. However, the situation changes once the group moves deeper into the forest.

The forest appears to be protected by a mysterious force—an “Indrajaal” filled with deadly traps, strange illusions and unexplained events. Members of the group begin disappearing one after another, turning the treasure hunt into a desperate battle for survival.

The strongest part of Indrajaal is undoubtedly its central idea.

The mysterious forest setting also offers plenty of possibilities. It could have delivered psychological horror, supernatural creatures, deadly puzzles, ancient secrets and unpredictable illusions.

For a while, the film successfully makes viewers curious about the treasure and the dangers surrounding it. The connection between Surya’s mission and his father’s unfulfilled dream also gives the adventure an emotional purpose.

Unfortunately, having a good concept is not enough. A mystery thriller also needs convincing world-building, controlled pacing and satisfying revelations.

Where Indrajaal Begins to Struggle

The biggest weakness of Indrajaal is that the presentation sometimes feels childish and unintentionally artificial.

The filmmakers clearly try to create a dangerous and magical forest, but several sequences fail to generate the required tension. Instead of feeling trapped inside an unpredictable supernatural world, viewers may become overly aware of the limited production scale.

The visual effects and fantasy elements are inconsistent. A few scenes look creative, while others make the forest’s mysteries feel less convincing. Because of this, it becomes difficult to remain emotionally connected to the characters’ journey.

The pacing is another major problem.

Almost every important twist takes too long to arrive. The movie repeatedly builds anticipation but does not always provide a rewarding payoff. At 2 hours and 16 minutes, the runtime begins to feel heavy, especially during the middle portion.

Shanaya Tripathi also performs confidently and provides solid support to the story. Their performances help the movie remain watchable during sections where the screenplay loses momentum.

The supporting cast includes Yashraj Dimbale, Namdeo Murkute, Kalpana Sarang, Darshana Rasal, Yogesh Dangat and Kiran Mane.
