Indrajaal Movie Story Explained
Indrajaal is a dark fantasy mystery thriller that mixes Indian folklore, a hidden treasure, supernatural creatures, black magic and the mysterious Neelavanti Granth into one adventurous story.
The mystery begins during British rule in India. A rebel named Beera steals wealth from the British and uses it to help poor people. Before his death, he hides a huge treasure somewhere inside the dangerous Mahakaleshwar forest.
However, this is no ordinary forest.
The treasure eventually comes under the protection of supernatural Yakshas. They do not want the wealth to fall into the hands of a greedy person. According to the legend, once every twelve years, during an eclipse, a deserving and pure-hearted person can receive the treasure.
Anyone trying to take it through greed becomes trapped inside a supernatural maze—the Indrajaal.
Dharmini and Krishna's Search for the Treasure
Dharmini Bandal Sarkar and her son Krishna come from a family that once possessed great wealth. Determined to regain their lost status, they begin searching for Beera's treasure.
They hire the tantric Jettaswami, but their first attempt fails.
Jettaswami becomes obsessed with proving his powers and remains in the forest, determined to become an Indrajaal Siddha Yogi.
Krishna later learns about another possible way to locate the treasure—the mysterious Neelavanti Granth.
What Is the Neelavanti Granth in Indrajaal?
According to the movie's mythology, the Neelavanti Granth contains supernatural knowledge that can allow someone to understand animals, birds and other mysterious beings.
This ability could reveal the location of hidden wealth.
Krishna enters Bajind's cave and discovers the book. But there is a terrifying condition attached to it. Reading the forbidden knowledge with the wrong intentions can lead to death, while abandoning it midway can awaken Bajind.
Krishna begins reading but falls asleep before completing it.
The curse activates.
Bajind awakens and kills Krishna.
His son Surya then vows to complete his father's unfinished mission, find the treasure and take revenge on Bajind.
Surya Enters Mahakaleshwar Forest
Twelve years pass.
Another eclipse is approaching, and Surya is now ready to enter the forest. To open Bajind's cave, he needs a magical branch known as Nagchhadi.
At the same time, several other characters enter the mystery.
A forest ranger is searching for the Pingla owl because its voice may reveal information about hidden treasure. Jettaswami is still attempting to gain supernatural powers. Jogan wants her lost Shakti Mani back. Bhura wants power and recognition within his tribe.
Almost everyone in the forest wants something.
This is one of the central ideas behind Indrajaal: greed and desire slowly pull every character deeper into the supernatural trap.
Kirti and Her Friends Become Trapped
Kirti enters the forest with Prajakt, Roshan, Alakh and Aanchal.
Their trip quickly turns into a nightmare.
Alakh encounters Jogan near an old stepwell. She gives the group a mysterious riddle:
What is something that suffers for water but dies after drinking it?
The group cannot answer correctly and becomes unable to leave the forest.
Meanwhile, Jettaswami is secretly manipulating events. Aanchal is killed, and Kirti also falls under the influence of black magic.
Eventually, the answer to Jogan's riddle is revealed to be “thirst.”
The group is temporarily allowed to continue, but their nightmare is far from over.
Why Is Kirti Important?
Kirti later receives a supernatural vision from the Yaksh King.
She discovers something none of the treasure hunters expected:
Kirti is the pure soul chosen to receive the hidden treasure.
The treasure was never meant for Surya, Dharmini, the ranger or even Jettaswami.
It belonged to Kirti.
But there appears to be a price. She is told that the person she loves must be sacrificed before she can receive it.
This condition becomes extremely important during the ending.
Bajind's Cave and the Pingla Owl Mystery
Surya, the ranger, Jettaswami and the others eventually reach Bajind's cave.
Using Nagchhadi, they open its entrance.
Jettaswami uses his newly acquired powers to awaken Bajind, who first appears in the form of a child.
They want Bajind to interpret the call of the Pingla owl.
Their phone battery dies at the worst possible moment, but Prajakt remembers the owl's sound and imitates it.
Bajind reveals the crucial clue:
The treasure map is tattooed on the back of a tribal person.
But Bajind demands food in return for his help.
When no one satisfies his hunger, he transforms into a terrifying creature and begins hunting them.
Surya vs Bajind
Bajind kills Roshan before Surya finally confronts him.
The confrontation also gives Surya an opportunity to fulfil his promise of avenging his father's death.
Surya defeats Bajind and retrieves Jogan's Shakti Mani.
Jogan regains her powers and opens the cave exit for everyone.
However, she warns them that Bajind cannot truly be destroyed. Surya has defeated only one of his forms.
Before Surya leaves, Jogan gives him a bottle of mysterious divine water.
That seemingly small moment becomes the key to the movie's final twist.
Who Gets the Treasure in Indrajaal?
The treasure map eventually leads everyone toward the final cave.
Dharmini reaches it first, but Jettaswami follows her.
Here another revelation is made: Jettaswami is not primarily interested in the gold. He wants a supernatural jewel hidden alongside it.
Dharmini tries to stop him.
Jettaswami kills her.
Surya arrives moments later and sees his grandmother dead. Furious, he attacks Jettaswami. Jettaswami initially defeats him and manages to obtain the magical jewel after performing a blood ritual.
But Surya is still alive.
When Jettaswami turns around, Surya strikes him with a sword and kills him.
Jettaswami's death finally triggers the appearance of the treasure.
Indrajaal Ending Explained
The Yaksh King appears and tells Kirti that the treasure belongs to her.
Kirti is confused because she was previously told that receiving the wealth would require the sacrifice of her lover.
The Yaksh King then reveals the ending's biggest twist.
Jettaswami had developed feelings for Kirti.
Therefore, in the supernatural logic of the prophecy, Jettaswami became the lover whose death fulfilled the required sacrifice.
His death was already tied to the destiny surrounding the treasure.
Kirti finally receives the wealth.
But this is not a happy ending.
Most of the people she cared about have died during the hunt. The treasure she never truly desired has cost almost everything.
Why Does Jogan Curse Surya?
Surya sits beside Dharmini's body and mourns her death.
After everything he has endured, he becomes weak and begins losing consciousness.
Kirti notices the bottle Jogan gave him earlier and hands it to him.
Surya drinks the water.
It saves him—but creates another problem.
Jogan suddenly appears in a different form and asks Surya another riddle:
“What sleeps during the day, cries at night, and the more it cries, the more it loses?”
Surya immediately realizes what has happened.
He has been cursed.
The divine water was not simply a gift.
The ending suggests that the supernatural forces guarding the forest will never allow someone who is not the rightful owner of the treasure to simply take it away.
Kirti was chosen by the Yakshas.
Surya was not.
Jogan's final appearance therefore shows that defeating Bajind and finding the treasure did not mean Surya had escaped the Indrajaal.
He is still trapped inside its supernatural rules.
What Does the Final Riddle Mean?
The movie deliberately ends without giving a clear answer to Jogan's second riddle.
That unresolved question leaves the door open for another chapter while reinforcing the central idea of the story: entering the Indrajaal is easier than escaping it.
Surya believed his journey was over.
In reality, another supernatural test had just begun.
Final Thoughts
Indrajaal stands out because it combines a traditional treasure hunt with Indian supernatural folklore, the Neelavanti Granth, Yakshas, tantric rituals, tribal mythology, cursed forests and magical creatures.
The treasure may look like the centre of the story, but the real theme is desire.
Dharmini wants wealth.
Jettaswami wants supernatural power.
The ranger wants the treasure.
Bhura wants status.
Jogan wants her Shakti Mani.
Surya wants revenge and his family's lost dream.
Kirti is different.
She is the one person who does not chase the treasure—and that is exactly why the treasure ultimately chooses her.
