Ikka Movie Review: Sunny Deol vs Akshaye Khanna’s Courtroom Drama Is It Worth Watching on Netflix?
A gripping courtroom mystery with powerful performances, ethical conflicts, and a surprising climax — here’s my honest review of Ikka.

After surviving the torture of Dhamaal 4, I finally came home and watched Ikka peacefully on Netflix. And honestly, what a different experience it was. Starring our own Sunny Paaji and the brilliant Akshaye Khanna, Ikka takes us into the world of courtroom battles, truth, lies, and justice. Since I personally love courtroom dramas, this movie immediately caught my attention.
So, is Ikka worth watching? Let’s talk about it.
The story revolves around a man played by Akshaye Khanna, who is accused of murder. Enter Sunny Deol, who plays his defense lawyer. But this is not a typical lawyer character. His character is someone who has built his entire career on fighting for innocent people. He never takes cases where there is even a small doubt that his client might actually be guilty.
But then something happens that forces him to take this complicated murder case. The biggest question remains — why does a lawyer with such strong principles decide to defend a man accused of murder? And does he truly fight for his client, or does he eventually stand against him? The answers slowly unfold throughout the movie.
The film has a runtime of around two hours and fifteen minutes, and thankfully it manages to keep you engaged. It creates enough curiosity to make you sit till the end. The biggest strength of the movie is the mystery surrounding the murder case. Even till the final moments, you keep wondering whether the crime actually happened or whether there is something much bigger hidden behind everything.
Akshaye Khanna once again proves why he is considered one of the most talented actors in Indian cinema. His expressions make it genuinely difficult to understand whether his character is innocent or guilty. He brings that same intensity and mystery that audiences love about his performances.
But the person who truly steals the show is Sunny Deol. His courtroom presence is powerful and extremely engaging. His character is shown as a lawyer who has never lost a case in his entire career. Watching him handle a situation where he has to fight a case against his own beliefs is the most interesting part of the movie.
The way his character balances ethics, emotions, and professional responsibility is beautifully portrayed. He doesn’t become corrupt or compromise his principles, and watching him fight this unusual battle is definitely worth your time.
The climax is also well-written. When the truth finally comes out and Sunny Paaji plays his final move, you finally understand why the movie is titled Ikka. That final card he plays explains everything.
However, the movie is not perfect. There are moments where the story becomes predictable, which works as a drawback. Some twists can be guessed before they are revealed.
Another thing is the reason behind Sunny Deol’s character taking this case. The makers have created a situation that requires you to look at things from a wider perspective. I cannot reveal it because it will spoil the experience, but this is probably one aspect where some viewers might feel divided.
The movie also deserves credit for keeping things clean. There are no unnecessary songs, no forced glamour, no excessive violence, and no vulgar content. This makes it a comfortable watch even with family. The film also never feels boring, which is another major positive.
I had actually kept very high expectations from Ikka, and maybe that was my mistake. But why wouldn’t expectations be high when two legendary actors like Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna are sharing the screen? Naturally, excitement increases.
I also feel releasing this movie directly on OTT was probably a smart decision by the makers. A courtroom drama like this might have struggled to find a big theatrical audience, but on Netflix, it gets the perfect space where viewers can enjoy the story patiently.
Overall, Ikka is a good one-time watch. It is not a masterpiece that you will watch repeatedly, but if you enjoy courtroom dramas, mystery, and strong performances, you should definitely add it to your watchlist.
My rating for Ikka — 3.5 out of 5 stars.
