The day I found Miranda was one of the best days of my life.

If you love the laughs you get from watching Miranda, one of the best BBC shows to ever air, then you are probably looking around for something to watch next, amarite?

The ingredients:

1. Strong and independent lead (bonus points if female), who is also incredibly awkward at times (ok, most of the time).

2. Friendship as a key theme.

3. Moral of the story: Be completely yourself and find friends who love you for who you are!

We all love Miranda because it's about a woman being completely herself, and her friends loving her unconditionally for just that. We love seeing the awkward moments, the social anxiety creep in, because we've all been there! I mean, that moment she loses her whole outfit in a taxi door?!?! And when she gets awkward and tells her college crush that she's married and has two kids named Orlando and Bloom?! I mean, we might not have been THERE, but we've had awkward moments that we thought we'd never live down. Miranda proves that it's possible.

We not only want Miranda as a best friend, but we also want to be as strong and quirky and loved as Miranda.

When you watched The Final Curtain, you probably didn't know where to turn. It's often hard to get past the newest and most-advertised TV shows and movies to find what you are actually looking for. But I'm here to help! Here are 6 TV shows and movies that you may not have heard of before, but will definitely give you those good laughs and storylines that you are looking for.

#1 - Call Me Kat

If you haven't already heard, Miranda has been re-made into an American edition, starring Mayim Bialik! Call Me Kat follows Kat's journey as a 39-year-old single woman who owns a cat cafe and never has a dull day! It's basically Miranda with a new twist, and is incredibly hilarious. Call Me Kat is streaming on Hulu and is currently dropping a new episode every week.

#2 - Living Single

Another oldie but goodie, Living Single is an amazing TV show that ran for 5 seasons back in the early 90's and is now available on Hulu. It follows a houseful of roommates and all of the twists and turns of friendship and dating while sharing a brownstone in Brooklyn. The mix of characters is hilarious, and it's starring Queen Latifah and Kim Fields! I've been watching this one throughout the pandemic and it has quickly become one of my favorite TV shows of all time. I love how these friends stick together, even through the worst (and petty) fights, and how this show focuses on how single women can have an amazing life "as long as we've got our girls."

#3 - Carrie Pilby

This movie follows a young savant trying to figure out how she fits into the world. With her incredibly high IQ, Carrie is definitely not immune to social anxiety, and her journey to complete a check-list from her therapist kicks her off onto a new path. This one is definitely a feel-good movie with a focus on being yourself while also letting others in, which can definitely be a challenge for most of us. Carrie Pilby also has incredibly cinematography and music, which will put you in an amazing mood. Available on Netflix!

#4 - Lost in Austen

Get ready for all of the awkward laughs! If you are a Jane Austen fan, you have met your match. Lost in Austen is a made-for-TV movie that follows the main character, Amanda, as she literally falls down the rabbit hole into her favorite book. And man, it is not how she expected it to be! She is caught up in a whirlwind of trying to figure out what is happening while also wondering what the Regency must think of her jeans! This one is definitely also going to hit the top of your list with its witty manipulation of a classic novel and a main character who is very comfortable in her own skin.

#5 - I Feel Pretty

This movie staring Amy Schumer delves into how our self-confidence can drastically change our lives. If you've ever felt less-than, this one is a definite pick-me-up and will help you see yourself for how beautiful you are! Amy keeps our abs aching too, so watching this one definitely counts as a work-out.

#6 - Eurovision Song Contest: The History of Fire Saga

If all you've ever wanted to do is chase your crazy dreams, Eurovision Song Contest is for you. Starring Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams, these two besties are shooting for the stars...but they might be about to fall. You'll have to watch and see! I definitely was not expecting much when I turned on this movie, but boy was I wrong; had a few ROFLMAO moments for reals. Yet again, this movie follows along the themes of being yourself, even when others don't get you. And friendship - it's always such an important factor in our lives.

I hope you enjoy these TV shows and movies that will help you remember how amazing you are, just the way you are!
