I have always been a fan of Michaela Coel and I have always admire her work in Chewing Gum and I enjoyed watching her on Chewing Gum. I was shocked to learn about her being assaulted while she was writing her show Chewing Gum which is the reason why she stops writing her show because of her assault and created a limited series "I May Destroy You" inspired by her incident. The show contains 12 episodes each at 30 minutes.

My assault story (if you would like to know my story) 👇👇👇👇👇👇

There might be some spoilers on this article.

So Spoiler Alert!!!

If you would like to watch I May Destory You or Chewing Gum, its available on HBO Max, plus new Max Originals streaming on HBO Max.

The first episode "Eyes Eyes Eyes Eyes" Coel plays the role as Arabella "Bella"Essiedu, pink haired writer was living in Italy with her somewhat boyfriend until she leaves Italy and comes back to London alone without him living with her mates. There was a scene where Arabella was at the literary office writing her draft paper she was trying to write but it became difficult for him and then search "how to write quickly". To be honest, I laughed at the scene because as a writer I would have my hard times writing whether its an essay, a script coming up with freaking dialogues, writing my novels, or better writing stuff on Vocal Media because no lie I am not the best writer and I don't consider it sometimes. Actually, no lie, I find it genius. Her friend invited her to party but she resisted and decided to work on her draft paper. Arabella steps out to hang out with friends at a club you know taking a break from writing, she sniff coke and start rapping. Then she went to a bar to meet up with them then got drunk until she looked disheveled and crazy and had a cut on her forehead continues on writing. She gives her draft to the agents and noticed her scar on and her behavior she acted towards them until she had a flashback of the night where she was assaulted by a stranger when she was entering her room.

Next episode, "Someone is Lying", Arabella had a hard time thinking about that night she assaulted by the stranger. She barely eats and doesn't explain to her friends on what happened that night. She calls Simon, her friend who was with her that night to explain what happened and why her phone was smashed. She would try to go to sleep but she would have a dream about her pressing the keypad. She starts questioning her friends even more on what happened that night to find out. Pretty much, doing her own investigation instead of going to the police. She finally tells the police on her assault with her friend Kwame, her gay best friend looks Todrick Hall by her side and questions her, and taking picture of her bruises. The scene where she was in the hospital doing the rape kit was emotional to watch seeing them test her it was hard to watch and reminisce my past.

Trust me I have been there.

Third episode, "Don't Forget the Sea", Back at Itlay, three months earlier before Arabella was assaulted with a new haircut and her hair purple. Her and her friend got high on weed. I watch how Arabella meets her future boyfriend Baigio,a drug dealer. I was questioned and shaken on why Arabella she was shaking then I was upset with the part she was taking some coke. It was funny and weird when her and Baigio tried to have sex on her period. Honestly, it wtf gross!!! While her other friend Terry was having threesome with two Italian dudes she met. At first, I was afraid she was assaulted by them when she met them. He reveals that he is not proud of his job as dealer and starts to develop a feeling for Bella.

"That Was Fun" Arabella enters this counseling clinic has a light conversation with a therapist. The therapist suggested her to find activities pretty to keep her relaxed and she tries phoenix aerobics class. The scary part was hearing the sound of the sharp scary sounds and develops an anxiety attack Arabella keeps getting emotional difficult and can’t stop thinking about the incident. She tried to have sex with Zain but she still thinks about the incident plus Zain pulled the condom off when they did the doggy. Kwame and his boyfriend meet up with a guy they met on Grindr they have sex in the boyfriend watch after sex Kwame was assaulted by that man.

Poor Kwame!

"...It Just Came Up" Arabella shaves her head and she went back to police station with her friends Terry and Kwame and they found semen after they did rape kit test on her in the second episode. Kwame report his assault to the police on what happened to him that night. Terry and Arabella go to the Writer's Summit and she tells the whole audience that Zain was assaulting her pretty much tarnishing him and his career. Her boyfriend was pissing me blaming Arabella for her assault not evening helping her. Kwame goes in a depression.

“The Alliance” Arabella joins a support group made Theo. The scene flashbacks to young Theo when she was about like 14 sneaking in the house. The most wtf scene, Theo and her boyfriend Ryan were trying to find a place to have sex and her boyfriend was taking pictures of her and him fucking and he pays her. It was too upsetting to watch and in my heart I knew it was going to a horrid nightmare. But it got worst when Theo cut herself in the bathroom in her legs and told her teacher that she was raped even though it was consensual sex.

Ryan didn’t rape her wtf more.

In the end Theo gets kicked out and Ryan stays doesn’t get in trouble thankfully. This starches my head to why Theo created a support group for people who have been assaulted even though she wasn’t assaulted plus why Arabella is joining her support group I didn’t understand that at all.

“Happy Animals”Arabella with a new wig gets embarrassed on social media when a store clerk takes a selfie with her when her card gets declined. She needed some money since the agency is not paying her so she start working with happy animals, a vegan company which looks kind of like PETA. Terry is not fond of Arabella‘s friendship with Theo even being at her birthday party after she framed Ryan for assault. Kwame starts to hear those scary sounds like the way Arabella hears And Develops anxiety attack. Kwame calls his boyfriend but boyfriend finally moved on so he lost him sadly. Kwame tells Terry that he was assaulted by the Grindr guy. In the end she fucked up the happy animals campaign and a fried chicken.

"Line Spectrum Border" the episode is another scratch in the head, Kwame is crossing over he seeing a woman and takes her on a date. Arabella goes back to station and the police said they found no match of her rapist. Arabella goes back to Itlay to see Biagio. The date with Kwame and his female date is awkward as f, like he is so gay and he should stick to it. She sees Biagio and things don't go well between them but at least he kind of paid for the pizza. The worst part was Biagio threatens Arabella with a gun to make her leave his apartment complex. In the end, Kwame tells his female date he is gay she is shocked and kicks him out after they had sex.

"Social Media is a Great Way to Connect" Arabella starts to reminisce the man who assaulted her that night trying to remember his face. Arabella and her fr went to a paint and wine Halloween event. Arabella has been doing the most on social media. Terry and Kwame finally pulls Arabella aside from the party they were about to tell her that he was assaulted but they couldn't bear it. She leaves them at the party and goes off on her live social media getting alot of love and hate on social media. In the end, she deletes her social media accounts after seeing her therapist. She finally apologize to Kwame for locking him in the room with a guy at Terry's birthday party and goes back to bar where she was assaulted. I was confused on the sonogram I had no idea that she was pregnant. That part was blatantly confusing.

"The Cause of the Cure" Arabella visits her family to celebrate her moms birthday. While at dinner, she starts reminisce her young self when she broke in her dads house and caught his mistress in his house and tells her mother about her incident. In the end, at the dinner table, everything seems calm and normal.

"Would You Like to Know the Sex"Arabella gets withdrawn from the commission and from her agents. Kwame goes back on date with the female date just to apologize to her but she is still pissed at him not telling her he is gay. I don't know why Kwame wants to try out women even though he is gay. Arabella starts working on her novel with the help of Zain who she called him out at the event. The good part of this episode was when Kwame go on a real date with a guy he likes no hooky. Arabella starts to remember the night she was assaulted and remember the guy's face when she was sitting outside of the bar and sees him there. It was David, the man that was with her and her friends that night.

The final episode"Ego Death" Arabella tells Terry that David raped her. The two developed a plan to get back at her rapist. Arabella, Terry, and Theo went in the bar watched him and his friend sitting at what it looks like the VIP section area. Bella in a disguise wig encounters with her rapist and the rapist puts the drug in her drink. They two drinks (Arabella pretends to drink the drugged drink) while Terry distracts David's friend while Theo sets up the plan. Honestly, I felt like they were trying to be like the film Promising Young Women character. She pretends shes drugged from the drink just when the rapist was about to mess with her, she gets up kisses him, Theo drugs him, then he flees. The satisfying part was Arabella punching the hell out of her abuser until he bleed but it was an allusion. The real part was kind of the same thing this time the Terry way. Terry calls the police on him but the police were in the bathroom and they were gone. Arabella took him to her house having conversations with him and hugs him in the end.....wait a minute why??? I don't understand. Then half of everything became this weird allusion that she is in love with her rapist and starts making out with him...Gross. In the end, her second book has been completed and published.

The show was beyond brilliant and somewhat confusing. The visuals attached the emotions of the story. I love Arabella's (Coel's character) choice of wigs and her outfits she makes the character more different than Tracey from Chewing Gum. Even though the topic was sexual assault it shows the realities after dealing with assault.
