I Am God (2025) Ending Explained: Who Is the Masked Killer and Is Deva Still Alive?

I Am God is a 2025 Kannada romance-thriller written and directed by Ravi Gowda. Ravi B Gowda plays Deva, while Vijeta Pareek stars as Bindhu, with P. Ravi Shankar appearing as police officer Bharath. The film was released theatrically on November 7, 2025.

What initially looks like a college romance gradually becomes a dark serial-killer mystery involving betrayal, revenge, murder and a masked man who believes he has the right to deliver his own form of justice.

But who exactly is “God”? Why is he killing women? And most importantly, does Deva actually die in the ending?

Here is the complete I Am God ending explained.

What Is I Am God About?

The movie follows two stories taking place across different timelines.

In the past, Deva and Bindhu are college students involved in an intense relationship. Deva is reckless, hot-headed and deeply possessive, but he genuinely believes Bindhu is the woman with whom he will spend the rest of his life.

In the present timeline, however, the city is being terrorized by a masked serial killer.

The murderer brutally targets women and leaves behind a disturbing message:

“I AM GOD.”

Police initially have almost no clue about his identity. As the murders continue, officer Bharath is brought into the investigation.

The mystery becomes more complicated because the movie deliberately keeps Deva and Bindhu’s old love story separate from the serial killings until the two timelines finally collide.

Bindhu Betrays Deva

Deva’s life begins falling apart when he discovers Bindhu sitting with his cousin Tushar.

Tushar reveals a devastating truth: Bindhu had been in a relationship with him before he moved to Canada. According to Tushar, Bindhu initially became close to Deva partly to make Tushar jealous.

For Deva, who had taken the relationship extremely seriously, the revelation is crushing.

However, the relationship does not end there.

Bindhu later makes it clear that she wants Deva, and after a dramatic series of events, the two eventually marry.

For a short period, it appears that their troubled romance may finally have reached a happy ending.

It has not.

What Happened After Deva and Bindhu Got Married?

After marriage, the relationship becomes increasingly toxic.

Bindhu wants Deva to separate from his parents and demands a share of the family property. Their arguments escalate, and during one confrontation Deva slaps Bindhu.

Bindhu subsequently accuses Deva and his parents of abusing her.

Police take Deva and his parents into custody, and Deva is badly beaten during the ordeal. After they are released, the humiliation becomes unbearable for his parents.

They return home and die in a gas explosion that the movie presents as suicide. Golu, another member of the household, also dies in the fire while attempting to help them.

Everyone eventually assumes Deva died as well.

But Deva survived.

And that tragedy changes him completely.

Who Is the Masked Killer in I Am God?

The biggest twist in I Am God reveals that Deva is the masked serial killer calling himself “God.”

The police discover the truth after examining CCTV footage connected to the murder of Bindhu’s mother.

Until this point, Bindhu believes Deva died roughly a year and a half earlier along with his family.

Instead, he survived and disappeared.

Emotionally destroyed by his parents’ deaths and his relationship with Bindhu, Deva eventually transforms himself into the masked killer.

The official CBFC plot summary also identifies Deva as the mass killer at the centre of the story.

Why Does Deva Become “God”?

After wandering aimlessly following his family tragedy, Deva reaches an emotional breaking point.

At one stage, he jumps into a river intending to end his life but survives.

He eventually reaches a forest where he sees a statue of Kaal Bhairav. Filled with anger and grief, Deva begins questioning why people who destroy other lives appear to escape punishment.

This becomes the psychological turning point behind his transformation.

Deva decides that he will punish women whom he believes have deliberately deceived their husbands, filed false domestic-violence complaints or financially exploited them following divorce.

It is important to distinguish the killer’s belief from moral justification: Deva’s murders remain acts of vigilante violence, not legitimate justice. The film uses this ideology as the basis for its revenge-thriller conflict.

Why Does Deva Kill Bindhu’s Mother?

Bindhu’s mother becomes another important piece of the mystery.

Deva discovers that she allegedly hired a criminal named Deepak to murder an actress because Bindhu wanted an opportunity in the film industry. Deepak copied the serial killer’s murder pattern so that investigators would blame “God.”

Deva eventually catches Deepak and learns what happened.

That discovery leads him to Bindhu’s mother, whom he kills.

Unfortunately for Deva, CCTV footage helps police finally connect him to the killings.

Is Bindhu Deva’s Final Target?

Yes.

Once police uncover Deva’s identity, they realize Bindhu may be his ultimate target.

Officer Bharath gives her a GPS tracker and arranges protection.

But Deva still manages to kidnap her.

He takes Bindhu to a remote cliff near a waterfall and prepares to kill her. Bindhu begs him to forgive her, but Deva blames her actions for everything that happened to his family.

Bharath eventually tracks them down.

He shoots Deva, apparently stopping him.

For a few seconds, it looks like Bindhu has survived.

Then comes the final shock.

I Am God Ending Explained

Despite being shot, Deva manages to get back up.

Bindhu is still chained to him.

Using his remaining strength, Deva grabs her and jumps from the massive cliff with Bindhu.

Both disappear into the depths below.

Police cannot recover either body, but they assume Deva and Bindhu are dead.

Bharath later holds a press conference announcing that the real serial killer has finally been eliminated.

That should be the end of the story.

But then everyone's phone receives a mysterious video.

The masked “God” appears on screen and announces that God cannot die.

He claims he is still alive and threatens to continue punishing people he considers guilty.

The movie therefore deliberately leaves Deva’s fate unresolved.

Is Deva Alive at the End of I Am God?

The movie never gives a definitive answer.

There are two major possibilities.

Deva somehow survived the fall and recorded or released the video afterward.

Alternatively, the video may have been prepared in advance, meaning Deva really did die with Bindhu.

A third possibility is even more interesting: somebody else could continue using the “God” identity.

The fact that police never recover Deva’s body leaves the filmmakers with an obvious path for a continuation.

So until the story officially confirms otherwise, the safest interpretation is:

Deva is presumed dead, but the ending intentionally suggests that “God” may still be alive.

What Does the Ending Really Mean?

The final message is less about proving whether Deva physically survived and more about showing that the fear created by “God” survives him.

Deva begins as a reckless young man deeply in love with Bindhu. Betrayal, family tragedy and his obsession with revenge gradually transform him into the very monster the police are hunting.

That transformation is the central tragedy of I Am God.

The film begins as a love story but ultimately becomes a story about what happens when grief and anger turn into an obsession with punishment.

And because no body is recovered and the mysterious final video appears after Deva's supposed death, I Am God closes on exactly the question a thriller wants audiences to keep asking:
