Disney+ has been unexpectedly leading the way for Disney with the closure of Disney Parks, learning centres and shops around the world. The online store remains open, but the Disney+ streaming service connects millions of people to Disney's original content. Disney ventured into the streaming business at almost the latest time as a resource to compete against other content services. Disney+ has been modelled around the pure Disney form (unlike Hulu, in which Disney has diverse assets) with the now mammoths in Star Wars, Marvel, and National Geographic and Disney originals. But how will Disney+ be part of the next generation's memory of Disney and will tv shows or movies dictate the playing field?

The potential of Disney+

Disney+ may be able to grab the attention of both loyal cinema-goers and casuals or modern streamers. Still, it doesn't seem as if it was meant to take the spotlight away from the leading performers at the Box Office. Pixar and live-action productions are now Disney's mainstays with detailed schedules and complex web of production times. Films are a continual, perpetually moving train. This template has all been swept up. Old Pixar films and Pixar shorts (which are unbelievably good) and short clips can continue to thrive on Disney+. Perhaps, these can be more of a focus moving forward to the transition to handheld devices for shorter, consumable content. Other grander projects, such as 'Onward' have been moved from the Box Office of the streaming platform, in a surprising move. The early shift to the Disney+ service signals that the attention and rewards from the streaming service limit its financial success, but perhaps encourages online store sales for financial growth. I'm sure it will appear back in cinemas to claim for international acclaim that Disney and all film studios pine for.

Who will define the decade?

Loki. God of Mischief. And a charmer. For me, he is an iconic character, curiously complex combined with magical essence. I love the cunning energy within him, and he sticks in my mind. I want you to think back to the first time you watched a Disney movie or a Pixar production. Was it the first Incredibles, Tangled, or The Lion King? Throughout all the daily drama, those timeless memories of fictional characters really stay with you.

Moreover, how did the sprawling, meticulous crafted Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) impact your world? While the characters are fictional, the emotions felt from them were real. And so many of us, myself included, were deeply invested and impatiently wait for the next MCU film. Or waiting for the next episode of the most expensive TV series to be released. The question is, will Disney be able to bring the monumental success from the Box Office to people's personal screens? Can characters like Loki continue feeling both cunning and nostalgic for years to come? Is that the challenge and is it needed?

Will it remain part of the conversation?

The clip below is a light-hearted take on the origin of Disney+. It's vital to know both sides of a discussion and the balance between them. While it is a centre for Disney's motion pictures, the culture and audience for Disney have changed. The depictions of stories on the streaming service are far more modern, but 'outdated cultural references' remain. They show how far back Disney began but also suggest the change it has managed to provoke over several generations.

Additionally, from this series 'Pitch Meetings', the notion of the MCU as the world's most expensive TV series originates from one of Ryan George's comedic takes on the MCU films.

Fatigue?

With Star Wars, there has been an overload of films causing film fatigue, and consumers are losing interest in the brand. There's a lot of emotional investment tied to these worlds, and that needs recovery time between movies. Marvel has been better at reducing the rate at which films are released. With the Phase 4 timeline released, Marvel fans are being incredibly patient for the expected high calibre content.

Bob Iger, the departing Disney CEO, is stepping down after a glittering career of service for the Disney family. His progressive vision for the company built a sustainable business model before the quarantine. While owning the rights is one thing, understanding the audience is another. Star Wars 'The Force Awakens' gathered momentum and broke records as with Rogue One. Both properties surged at the Box Office, and the following films for the Star Wars universe lacked that ultimate refinement. Fans are brutal and while loyal to their interests, also like their money and so shied from the cinemas.

The lessons learned from Star Wars is similar to the principle to Disney+ in that quality over quantity is required for memorable, diverse, classic motion pictures. Disney is unique in its position in society and can fashion its stories visually and physically. For now, we'll enjoy the online media that's released, but Disney must adapt and be active about its change.

Disney+'s original content should be of higher quality than current streaming productions as shown with high budgets, stories for all the family and a slow continuation of Disney's assets. Marvel, Star Wars and the older acquisition of Pixar can elevate the expansion of Disney and carry the magic and imagination further than before. Through these channels, I expect Disney to carve out its own memories in the following generations.
