House of the Dragon

Season 2 Prep

We are getting ready for season 2 of House of the Dragon, when the dance really starts. But before we do we should probably revisit season 1. Season 1 set up the dance and pretty much nothing else which means the things that come next have already been set in motion. I will be using Fire and Blood to attempt to determine what we might see this season while keeping in line with all the things that the tv show has changed about the characters.

Alicent and Rhaenyra’s past friendship. This is something that I anticipate coming up as Alicent has already tried to manipulate Rey into giving up and recognizing her usurper as king. That said, I really only anticipate one moment where they force some kind of heartfelt connection that will make no sense because they haven’t been close in years and Alicent literally just screwed over Rhaenyra in the worst way possible.

There should be some kind of conflict brought to a head between Alicent and Otto. He literally pimped her out when she was a child and continued to manipulate her and Viserys. It’s also pretty clear that Alicent is tired of getting pushed around and is desperate for someone to support her. So, as a writer, I feel it is necessary that these two have some kind of blowout.

I swear to Jesus someone better kill Sir Crispy Cole or I am going to lose my mind. That man is so bitter that Rheanyra wouldn’t give up the Iron Throne for him that he fully switched sides. He’s a whiny little bitch and I really need Daemon to behead him.

Most people anticipate that we will see some variation of Blood and Cheese in response to Lucerys’ death. I will not spoil those events for those of you who have not read the book. But I agree that the retaliation will be Daemon’s to orchestrate and execute. I also agree that this retaliation will be against Alicent’s children as that is apparently the only thing that drives her despite her being the world's worst mother.

One thing I want to happen but there is no possible way that we are going to see it; I want Leanor to come back and fight for his queen or at the very least I want Rhaenyra to tell Rhaenys that he is alive. Look I know that it's completely out of the realm of possibility because that would make the Blacks look good and the show has done such a good job of only changing things from the books that paint them in a bad light and attempts to make the Greens look good. But I feel like it would be true to the character that they created for Leanor. Granted this all hinges upon him being in an area that would hear that Rhaenyra was usurped and I do believe the point of him disappearing was for him to remove himself completely from Westeros.

I am vaguely interested to see how they spin the events of the second season because just objectively speaking the Greens are not battle ready. Not a single major player on the Greens has seen real war, they have no battle experience and in matters of war they are woefully unprepared. Whereas ALL of the major players for the Blacks have seen violence and proven themselves competent in matters of war. Honestly with the battle savvy and the dragons I’m really not seeing how this war lasted any longer than 5 minutes. It, in reality, would have been a very quick fix.
