Hidden Gem Television Shows

My top underrated television shows

I know that now many people have a Netflix account and there are so many great shows to watch such as Grey's Anatomy, The Flash, Friends, The office and so many more. However, there are some shows, which are great, but not too many people know about them. I only recently started to watch other shows that were on Amazon Prime and other streaming services. I will give you a great list of shows for you to sit down and watch until it is midnight.

1. Bewitched

My older sister had discovered a new show for me to watch for hours on end. This show is titled Bewitched. Bewitched is a show for all ages and who enjoy so good old fashioned slap-stick comedy. This is an older television show that ran from 1964-1972. The show is about a witch that married an ordinary man and she tends to solve her problems with a little bit of magic. The dialogue is fun and catchy and the jokes may resemble some dad jokes, but are hilarious none the less. This is a great show to sit down and watch with your family. There are many incidents that happen in this show that you can predict, but it does not get boring. You can watch this show on CTV. Samantha, the witch, is always trying to become a regular house-wife and to not use her powers as much as to not raise suspicions of their neighbors who are constantly spying on the young odd couple. The theme music for this show is catchy and fun and will be stuck in your head for days, but it will be worth it.

2. Reign

Reign is the television show that I enjoyed watching before the Game of Thrones became such a large phenomenon. There was gore, sex and of course the back stabbing and drama. Unfortunately, the show ended after the fourth season. The show is to depict Mary, the queen of Scots. Of course this series is obviously fictionalized, but I thought it was very well done. The series does not only focus around her, but it also focuses around her hand-maidens and the trials that they go through. This show is more drama than it is about death. The show takes place in 1557. If you long for Game of Thrones, this might be an interesting show to look up. The show is less about the timeline accuracy and more about the drama, so keep that in mind.

3. Drop Dead Diva

You have probably seen this show in the television series section of Netflix and, this may not be for everyone, but if you like girly drama then this just might be for you. A thin, shallow woman was painting her nails while on her way to work and gets into a car accident, she then dies, but is sent back to earth by mistake and is sucked into a successful lawyers curvy body and it just so happens that her fiance works at the same firm, but Deb is dead and he only knows her as Jane the lawyer. Deb must then get used to her new body as Jane and use her brains over her beauty. This show is quirky, weird and little funny and dramatic in a romantic comedy sort of way. It is great if you want to turn your brain off for a while and watch something that is not overrated.

4. Dynasty

Do you miss shows such as Gossip Girl? Well, look no further because I found a show that is about self-entitled people, who are rich and are always hell-bent on making each others lives miserable in many ways. There are the usual characters such as the father that gets remarried too often, the hot wife who is using her husband's money for her own benefit and is manipulating him blindly, the daughter who wants her father's approval, the son who has a mental breakdown and the ex-wife who is jealous in an obvious way. This will feed your need for the drama. There are only two seasons out now, but don't wait up as the third season is well on its way to Netflix. This show is good if you live for the drama of the show and you like to watch terrible people do terrible things to each other. The constant drama is what keeps this show alive.

5. Happy Endings

This is one of the most under rated television shows, it used to be on Netflix, but has been moved to Amazon Prime. The show is about a gang of friends who are just trying to figure life out. This show is funny, quirky and has a strong dimension between each other. You've got the gay guy who is not flamboyant, the woman who gets around and is very flamboyant and comfortable with her sex life, the married couple who are so perfect that it is almost realistic, the girl who left the guy at the alter and the guy who is trying to get over the fact that has been left at the alter. Even though, you may think this group dynamic could never work, but it does and it is amazing how great it turns out. The characters are relatable and makes me sad that it only carried on for three seasons. I would love to see more of this show, but if you are looking for a similar show then, you can bet that New Girl is very similar. I prefer Happy Endings to New Girl because it was not as sex crazed and it still had quirky fun humor.

Well that is my top five list and I hope you enjoyed reading it and will enjoy the shows that I mentioned above. Some of these shows may not be hidden gems per se, but many of these have not been watched by millions of people. Open your favorite wine, put your feet up and binge the night away!
