In 2021 we celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the Harry Potter film series premiere. On November 4, 20 years will have passed since the theatrical release of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone."

Pottermania is back? In 2021, we heard how a Harry Potter Live-Action TV Series could be in early development on the HBO Max streaming platform. Potterheads want to go back to Hogwarts, but they may pull the plug if J. K. Rowling still gets paid top dollar in royalties.

Variety and The Holywood Reporter (THR) were the first whistle-blowers. Afterward, Twitter was lit, with tweets escalating exponentially. Three hours after the news broke, the Harry Potter topic was trending on Twitter and reaching the top ten with more than 100K mentions.

Even so, it can be a long time before the series becomes a reality if plans are indeed moving forward. If we believe the news to be trustworthy, the project is in a relatively early stage of discussion.

A Harry Potter live-action TV series is in early development at HBO Max. Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that executives at the WarnerMedia-backed streamer have engaged in multiple conversations with potential writers (…)

However, The New York Post contacted Warner Bros. and HBO Max regarding the recent news and received a joint statement denying a television adaptation of Harry Potter.

There is no Harry Potter series in development at the studio or on the streaming platform. Warner Bros. holds the rights and pulls strings regarding the Harry Potter film franchise and its distribution, while J. K. Rowling has full control over her books.

Thus, no one can go back to Hogwarts without Rowling agreeing to a revamping of her fantasy novels about the Wizarding World.

The Fandom feedback

Today, J. K. Rowling took a lot of heat from the Harry Potter Fandom. Many fans demured the author still recalling how J. K. posted a series of tweets that enraged the members of the LGBT + community, who accused her of transphobia.

Rowling's tweets came in response to an opinion piece published on the global development website Devex, "Creating a more egalitarian post-Covid-19 world for menstruating people".

The author argued that her comments were not intended to offend the LGBT + community but only meant to underline that sex is real and has consequences. However, the damage had been done, and Twitter users made it very clear today.

Potterheads were stirred in anticipation of new Wizarding content; however, the less-die-hard Fans don't necessarily want it, if J. K. still makes a profit.

Outside the Fandom, non-believers were bashing the news about Harry Potter while praising the new series of Percy Jackson and the Olympians on the Disney + platform. Author Rick Riordan left an update on January 24.

We have a couple of important meetings this coming week with the top brass at the studio for the Percy Jackson TV show, so keep your fingers crossed. Everyone who has read the pilot script loves it, but there will be a few additional tweaks we need to make before we send it off to its next stop: the top execs at Disney+.

Final Thoughts

Thinking about how the Harry Potter franchise has complicated rights issues - that probably motivated the statement denying the recent news - and how fans have moved away from Rowling's vision.

It's hard to foresee how they can pull it off without J. K. seeing millions in royalties coming her way and, by doing so, infuriating internauts. With some being more than happy to move away from Hogwarts to join Percy and the Olympians.
