Haiwaan Official Trailer Review: Akshay Kumar’s Dark Avatar, Saif Ali Khan’s Blind Character and a Tense Priyadarshan Thriller

The Haiwaan trailer puts Akshay Kumar’s disturbing new character at the centre while Saif Ali Khan, Saiyami Kher and Boman Irani add more mystery to Priyadarshan’s suspense thriller.

The official trailer of Haiwaan has arrived, and the biggest talking point is undoubtedly Akshay Kumar’s intense and seemingly unhinged character. Even without revealing too much about the story, the trailer creates an unsettling atmosphere through Akshay Kumar’s voice-over, dark visuals and a growing sense that something dangerous is about to happen.

For viewers who have been waiting to see Akshay Kumar move away from lighter roles and return to something darker and more serious, Haiwaan immediately looks interesting.

Akshay Kumar’s Dark Character Steals the Haiwaan Trailer

The trailer appears to revolve heavily around Akshay Kumar.

Interestingly, it does not need long scenes of him explaining his character. His voice-over itself gives viewers an indication of his mental state. His delivery feels unpredictable, aggressive and almost psychologically disturbing.

That raises the biggest question surrounding Haiwaan:

Who exactly is Akshay Kumar playing?

Is he a serial killer? Is he driven by revenge? Or is there another reason behind his violent and unstable behaviour?

The trailer deliberately avoids answering those questions, which works in its favour.

Akshay Kumar's performance also brings back memories of some of his older serious roles, particularly the darker intensity audiences have not seen from him as frequently in recent years.

Saif Ali Khan Plays a Blind Man in Haiwaan

Another major attraction is the reunion of Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan on the big screen.

Saif Ali Khan is shown playing a blind character, immediately adding another layer of mystery to the plot.

The trailer does not clearly explain how his character connects with Akshay Kumar's character, but their confrontation could become one of the central elements of the film.

The combination of Akshay's apparently dangerous personality and Saif's vulnerable-looking but potentially important character makes the conflict even more intriguing.

What Is the Story of Haiwaan?

The official trailer intentionally keeps the complete storyline hidden.

There are enough clues to establish a suspenseful and possibly psychological narrative, but not enough information to confidently predict exactly where the story will go.

Viewers familiar with the film that reportedly inspired the Hindi version may have a better idea about the basic premise. However, the Haiwaan trailer appears designed to make audiences discover the mystery through the film itself rather than revealing everything beforehand.

That is particularly effective for a suspense thriller.

Instead of explaining the villain's motivation or showing the central twist, the trailer concentrates on atmosphere, characters and tension.

Priyadarshan Brings a Much Darker Tone

Priyadarshan is widely associated with comedy by Hindi audiences, but Haiwaan appears to be operating in a considerably darker space.

Even films such as Bhool Bhulaiyaa demonstrated how effectively Priyadarshan could balance humour with genuinely serious and unsettling moments.

With Haiwaan, however, the trailer suggests that suspense and tension could remain the dominant tone.

There may still be lighter moments in the finished movie, but the trailer itself is clearly focused on creating uneasiness rather than comedy.

The gradual tension building is actually one of its strongest elements.

Saiyami Kher Appears as a Police Officer

The supporting cast also increases the film's potential.

Saiyami Kher is seen playing a police officer, suggesting that an investigation could become an important part of the story.

If Akshay Kumar's character is involved in a series of crimes, her character may be among those trying to understand what is happening and uncover his true motives.

The trailer avoids revealing how much she already knows, leaving another mystery for the film.

Boman Irani Could Have an Important Role

Boman Irani also appears in Haiwaan, and his presence hints at another significant character within the larger mystery.

The trailer does not reveal enough about his role to determine whether he is connected to the investigation, the victims or Akshay Kumar's character.

That secrecy appears intentional.

With a thriller like Haiwaan, characters who initially seem secondary could eventually become extremely important.

Shreya Pilgaonkar's Absence Could Be Significant

Another name associated with the cast is Shreya Pilgaonkar, although her character is not prominently revealed in the trailer discussed here.

That naturally creates speculation.

Sometimes suspense films intentionally hide a character from promotional material when revealing too much about that person could expose a major plot development.

Whether that happens with Shreya's character remains to be seen, but her role could potentially be connected to one of the movie's surprises.

Could Mohanlal Have a Cameo in Haiwaan?

There has also been speculation surrounding a possible Mohanlal cameo.

However, this should currently be treated as speculation rather than a confirmed plot detail.

If such an appearance happens, it could become a major surprise for audiences familiar with the original film connected with Haiwaan.

Until the movie releases, though, viewers should probably avoid treating cameo rumours as confirmed.

Haiwaan Budget and OTT Rights Reports

The commentary surrounding the trailer mentions a reported budget of approximately ₹115 crore and also claims that Sony has acquired the film's OTT rights for around ₹80 crore.

These numbers should be treated as reported figures unless officially confirmed by the filmmakers or platform.

If accurate, however, strong digital-rights revenue could reduce the film's dependence on its theatrical collection alone.

Its box-office performance will still matter, particularly with Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan leading the cast, but the reported digital deal would potentially give the movie a considerable financial cushion.

Why the Haiwaan Trailer Works

The most effective thing about the Haiwaan trailer is what it doesn't reveal.

It introduces:

  • Akshay Kumar's psychologically disturbing character

  • Saif Ali Khan as a blind man

  • a police investigation involving Saiyami Kher

  • several mysterious supporting characters

  • a dark and tense atmosphere

But it does not explain how all of these pieces connect.

That creates curiosity without spoiling the film's biggest surprises.

For a suspense thriller, that is exactly what a trailer should do.

Haiwaan Release Date

According to the trailer commentary, Haiwaan is scheduled to release in theatres on September 11.

With Akshay Kumar in an unusually dark role, Saif Ali Khan playing a blind character and Priyadarshan directing a suspense-driven story, the film has several elements capable of attracting audiences.

The biggest question will be whether the movie can maintain the tension promised by its trailer while delivering a mystery strong enough to justify all the secrecy.

For now, the Haiwaan trailer succeeds at one important thing: it makes you want to know what Akshay Kumar's character is really hiding.
