Glee Christmas Episodes

In order of re-watchability

Glee was a moment, it was iconic for all of the wrong reasons but that doesn’t stop many of us past gleeks from hate re-watching. That said there were good episodes, among them being the Christmas ones. So I have decided to rank the Glee Christmas episodes. These are being ranked based on musical performances, song choice and storyline.

4) 5.8 Previously Unaired Christmas

Glee has always been a bit unhinged but this episode is….extra. The Glee club doing a living nativity scene is super gross. Santana goes to visit Kurt and Rachel in New York and they all decide to be Christmas elves at a mall. Side note - trying to turn Tina into the new Rachel of glee club was such a bad decision. This is easily the most unhinged Glee Christmas episode, so if that's your thing cool but ummm it's bad.

3) 3.9 Extraordinary Merry Christmas

The televised Glee Christmas special wasn’t a bad idea, I just think the execution was a little weird. Amber opening with All I Want for Christmas is You was such a goddamn good opening and then the episode had no choice but to go downhill. I think if they had made the entire episode the black and white special with no extraneous plot or context it would have been so much better.

That said, once we finally got to the Glee Christmas special it was amazing, Kurt and Blaine once again stole the show with Let it Snow. Once we popped back into the real world however we were back to boring. I will say that basing this Christmas episode off of It's Christmas Time Charlie Brown was a good decision. This really solidified that the best Glee Christmas episodes are based off of existing Christmas stories.

2) 4.10 Glee, Actually

The Love, Actually approach to this episode was definitely the best decision. Artie’s story is a Christmas Carol, Kurt and Burt’s is super depressing, and of course Blain and Kurt’s Christmas duet is once again the best part of the episode. Brittany and Sam think the world is ending which feels awkward and out of place but to be fair so do Brittany and Sam…The Puckerman boys get their family together and Marley and her mom get a very sweet gift from Sue. This is definitely a more chill Glee episode but it's not as boring as the Christmas episode from season 2 and it does a good job of giving the newer characters plot. It's also one of the best tied together episodes that take place after the seniors graduate.

1) 2.10 A Very Glee Christmas

We Need A Little Christmas is simply one of the best Christmas covers that exists, truly one of the Glee clubs best performances.

Rachel singing Merry Christmas Darling was so boring and mediocre, it totally could have been cut from the episode and it would have made it better.

Blaine and Kurt’s cover of Baby It's Cold Outside had me in a chokehold for so long. I remember repeatedly watching the scene on YouTube because I just loved the performance and the staging so much. Their vocals just work so well together and I truly love this song.

Brittany still believing in Santa and asking him to make Artie walk was such a Glee fucking storyline. Add in Rachel trying to get Finn back by singing to him and it's the most quintessential Glee episode there is. Them telling the How the Grinch Stole Christmas story with Sue was also very good. Overall this is definitely the most solid Glee Christmas episode and I think that is mostly reflected in the fact that it was an earlier episode and therefore all of the episodes were stronger.

Honestly if you are a fan of Glee you should watch all of them but they are an interesting re-watch if you have outgrown the series.
