'Ghostbusters' Reboot Lands Official Trailer
A new team takes up the slack....
Sony Pictures has released the first official full length movie trailer for the upcoming Ghostbusters Reboot, to be released July this year.
Being helmed by Bridesmaids Director Paul Feig and starring Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy (who also co starred in Bridesmaids) the trailer appears to give us our first glimpse of the ongoing Ghostbusters saga.
Without further ado, check it out below.
Now as a LIFE LONG hardcore Ghost-Buster fan myself, who had everything from the action figures right down to the jigsaw puzzles, i'm not sure what to take away from this long teaser. I'm not gonna slam it straight out of the gate but that's not to say i don't have my reservations.....
News has been breaking through the slime barrier for the last few months, giving us a steady trickle of casting reports and plot points. The biggest story, i'd say, being that all surviving cast members from the original 2 movies would be returning (barring Rick Moranis).
Bill Murray, who's supposedly stalled plans for a Ghostbusters 3 for decades by not agreeing to be a part of it, has signed on for the reboot. Conflicting reports state he will be playing lovable scientist Peter Venkman, while other reports say he will be a new character altogether. What made him return to the franchise? here's his own words:
" I thought about it for a very long time. Like, many, many months. No, that’s not right. I was seriously thinking about this for years, really … It kept eating at me, and I really respect those girls. And then I started to feel like if I didn’t do this movie, maybe somebody would write a bad review or something, thinking there was some sort of disapproval [on my part]"
Writer and star of the original movies Dan Aykroyd has been trying to get Ghostbusters 3 into production since 1989 believe it or not. He even appeared as his character Ray Stanz in 1995's Casper, which i believe was a way of keeping the franchise relevant but ultimately it was almost 15 years later until we saw a third chapter in the form of 2009's Ghostbusters: The Video Game.
The script was based on the failed Ghostbusters 3 movie that never was and had the added bonus of combining everything you loved in the original movies and finally gave fans a go on those neutrona wands.
Having all the original cast back to reprise their roles (bar again rick Moranis) and with the magic of CGI they looked exactly the same as they did 30 years prior. Personally as a fan i was entranced when i threw my first spook into the ghost trap, those spaghetti laser streams are so much fun!!
Dan Aykroyd had this to say about the new film recently :
“Paul’s kind of the George Cukor of Hollywood: He has a great touch directing female actors and he really knows how to hit the female psyche and sensibility. In a way, his movie might be a little better than the first two because they can do more – CGI might be a little better. But also, you know, there might be more jokes in it. I’m really happy with what I’m seeing.”
So will the new movie become an organic working part of the franchise and usher in a whole new audience to the fold? or will it simply become known, like many reboots, to be simply a cash and grab rip off of it's source material?
Time will tell...........
