Some board games are created for entertainment. Others should never be touched.
Ghost Board is a Thai supernatural horror movie built around an ancient game that works as a portal between the human world and the spirit realm. Once four players begin the game, they cannot stop. Every new round summons another terrifying demon, and the players must reach the centre of the board before sunrise.
The film mixes possession horror, Thai urban legends, demonic creatures, friendship and survival into one fast-moving story. Here is the complete plot and ending of Ghost Board explained.
The Origin of the Cursed Board Game
The movie begins by revealing that archaeologists discovered an ancient board game believed to be more than 3,000 years old. According to local legends, the board is not an ordinary game. It is a magical talisman capable of opening a portal between the human world and the underworld.
Some people also believe that anyone who plays it can summon demons from hell.
The story briefly moves to 1955, where a young monk is running from his own mother. However, she is no longer in control of her body. A demonic entity has possessed her and is playing a deadly game of hide-and-seek with him.
The possessed woman eventually hangs the young monk. As he dies, a strange 12-sided dice falls from his hand, confirming that he and his friends had activated the cursed game.
None of the previous players survived.
Four Students Discover the Ghost Board
In the present day, three close friends—Ben, Jody and Tone—are introduced. They love playing board games and even skip their Buddhism class to continue playing. However, most of their favourite games require four players.
Their classmate Priktai later joins them. Ben secretly likes her, and she soon becomes the fourth member of their group.
As punishment for skipping class, their teacher sends all four students to an ancient Buddhist monastery to learn about Buddhist traditions. Ben’s older sister Bell, who works as a doctor, is supposed to pick them up in the evening.
While waiting near the monastery, the students discover an abandoned temple. Tone tells them a frightening local legend about a woman who supposedly killed her young son inside the building after becoming possessed.
Inside the temple, they find a mysterious object wrapped in sacred cloth. Beside it is an ancient manuscript.
When they remove the cloth, they discover a wooden game board and a 12-sided dice. Priktai reads something disturbing in the manuscript and warns the others not to play. However, while Tone and Ben struggle over the dice, it falls to the ground.
The game immediately begins.
The Rules of the Ghost Board
The students soon realise that the board requires exactly four players. After Priktai joins the game and rolls the dice, the pieces begin moving by themselves.
A message appears from the centre of the board, warning them that the first demon has arrived.
The temple candles light themselves, and the faces of the Buddha statues mysteriously turn away. A fast, animal-like demon appears and attacks Tone, biting his neck.
The students escape with the board, but the creature follows them outside. Bell arrives in her truck and accidentally hits the demon. Even after being struck multiple times, it continues chasing them.
Back at Ben’s house, Priktai translates the manuscript and finally explains the rules.
The board was created thousands of years ago by a black-magic practitioner. The royal family later seized it and handed it to Buddhist monks, who sealed it inside sacred cloth.
Once the game begins:
Exactly four players must participate.
The players must continue rolling until they reach the centre.
Every round summons a different demon or spirit.
The game must be completed before 6 a.m.
Refusing to continue does not cancel the game.
If the players fail, all four of them will die.
The group now understands that their only chance of survival is to finish what they accidentally started.
Bell Becomes Possessed
Ben’s mother had collected talismans and protective amulets, so the group uses them to protect the house. Unfortunately, the game’s supernatural forces are stronger than expected.
During the next round, a message warns them about an entity that feeds on fear, sadness and emotional weakness. Anyone who reveals their deepest pain can be possessed.
Bell sees the entity inside a mirror and is pulled into its supernatural realm. The spirit takes control of her body.
Possessed Bell becomes violent and attacks the students with a cutter. Although an amulet temporarily weakens the entity, Bell swallows the protective charms and begins crawling across the walls and ceiling.
Ben manages to reach the real Bell for a few seconds, but the demon quickly regains control. Jody eventually knocks her unconscious, and the group ties her to a chair.
Realising that the demons can physically attack them, the students collect weapons. Ben takes a chainsaw, Tone carries a sickle, Priktai chooses an axe, and Jody takes his brother’s homemade gun.
The Forest Demon
The next warning announces the arrival of a forest demon.
This is particularly dangerous because Ben’s house is surrounded by trees. The sky turns red, a portal opens, and living vines drag Priktai into the forest.
Ben, Jody and Tone follow her. They discover a giant demonic creature capable of controlling trees and plants. Guns and sharp weapons have almost no effect on it.
Tone initially runs away in fear, but he returns with a brilliant plan. He fills a sprinkler with petrol and uses a lighter to turn it into a homemade flamethrower.
The group covers the forest demon with fuel, and Priktai sets it on fire. Because its powers are connected to plants and vines, fire becomes its greatest weakness.
The demon burns to death.
The King of the Sky Attacks
Officer Pao and Sergeant Swar arrive at Ben’s house after hearing gunshots. Still possessed, Bell lies to them and claims that Ben and his friends attacked and robbed her.
The students escape in Bell’s truck and continue playing the game while travelling.
The next message warns them about a flying demon known as the King of the Sky. The sky once again becomes red, and a swarm of bats emerges from a portal.
A giant bat-like creature attacks the moving truck. It nearly kills Jody and Priktai before Jody shoots it in the head.
However, the truck loses control, crashes into a tree and leaves the four players unconscious for almost an hour.
When they wake up, Officer Pao arrests them.
Priktai Reveals Her Secret
At the police station, Jody reveals that he was falsely accused of stabbing another student. The incident had been an accident, but everyone—including Officer Pao—treated him like a criminal because his older brother was already in prison.
Priktai then makes an even more shocking confession.
She had understood the board’s warning before the game began. However, she did not stop the others because her parents had died in a car accident. She hoped the game might allow her to contact their spirits.
Her friends are initially hurt but eventually forgive her.
Meanwhile, Bell arrives at the station while still possessed. The entity threatens to kill her unless Ben returns home with her. To protect his sister, Ben agrees to leave.
The remaining three players are locked inside a cell, but Tone secretly has the dice. They continue the game without the physical board.
They need 12 points to finish. Their latest rolls give them 10.
Only Ben can earn the final two points.
The Headless Warrior
The final supernatural warning at the police station announces the arrival of a vengeful Headless Warrior.
The lights go out, and the spirit begins killing police officers. After decapitating a guard, the warrior carries the man’s head so that it can see its surroundings.
Officer Pao and Sergeant Swar finally realise that the students were telling the truth.
The warrior kills Sergeant Swar and attacks Officer Pao. Its sword pins Pao against a car. Knowing he cannot escape, Pao gives Jody the key to his confiscated motorcycle and tells the teenagers to run.
Pao then takes his own life rather than allowing the warrior to remove his head.
Jody, Tone and Priktai race back to Ben’s house. By this point, less than thirty minutes remain before 6 a.m.
Ghost Board Ending Explained
At Ben’s house, the possessed Bell hunts her brother through the rooms. Jody, Tone and Priktai arrive just in time to save him.
During the struggle, the dice falls through a hole in the floor.
Priktai finds it, but the entity leaves Bell’s body and possesses her instead. It traps Priktai inside an illusion where she sees her dead parents. They ask her to remain with them forever.
Priktai nearly gives in, but she realises the truth. These figures are not really her parents. They are illusions created by the entity to stop her from helping her friends.
She attacks the false image of her mother and escapes the supernatural realm.
The entity then returns to Bell’s body and places a knife against her throat. It warns Ben that Bell will die if he rolls the dice.
Only one minute remains before 6 a.m.
Ben refuses to surrender. He grabs the knife with his hand and throws the dice.
At first, it appears to land on one point, which would not be enough to finish the game. At the final second, the dice shifts slightly and lands on two.
The players reach the centre of the board.
The game is complete.
Every demon, spirit and entity summoned during the night is pulled back through the portal. Bell is freed from the possession, the Headless Warrior disappears, and the supernatural nightmare finally ends.
Why Did the Demons Try to Stop the Players?
The demons were not appearing randomly just to frighten the group. They wanted the players’ souls.
The game gave them temporary access to the human world. If the players failed to finish before 6 a.m., the demons would be able to kill them and claim their souls.
That is why the creatures constantly tried to separate the players, steal the dice, create emotional illusions and prevent Ben from making the final roll.
The game was technically possible to win, but it was designed to make victory extremely unlikely.
What Happens to the Ghost Board?
After sunrise, Ben, Jody, Tone, Priktai and Bell return to the monastery.
They burn both the board and the dice to ensure that nobody else can activate the portal. Previous players had apparently died before they could warn anyone, making this group the first known survivors.
The ending also confirms that Priktai has officially become part of Ben, Jody and Tone’s friendship group. Bell also becomes their responsible older protector.
The nightmare strengthens their friendship, but the trauma of that night will remain with them forever.
Final Verdict
Ghost Board delivers an entertaining mixture of supernatural horror, demonic possession, survival adventure and Thai folklore. Its strongest idea is the structure of the board game, with every round introducing a different monster and a new set of rules.
The film may not be deeply psychological, but it remains fast, creative and surprisingly fun. The forest demon, the possessed Bell and the Headless Warrior provide some of the most memorable horror sequences.
For viewers who enjoy movies such as Jumanji, Ouija and Zathura but want something darker and more supernatural, Ghost Board is worth watching.
