Moss, Jen and Roy from The IT Crowd

Okay, I admit it. I started binge-watching British TV shows since I had to cancel my London trip thanks to COVID-19. Nevertheless, I am pleased to introduce these gems that you might have missed so far. So, come on, love. They are bloody funny!

1. The IT crowd

'The IT Crowd' began airing on Channel 4 in England in 2006 and has a total of 24 episodes. Roy(Chris O'Dowd) and Moss(Richard Ayoade), the technicians of the IT department at Renholm Industries, a virtual company. Jen(Katherine Parkinson) joined the team as the department head/relationship manager. This show is about the shenanigans of these three members.

Each character has such a strong personality, and they are so lovely in their own ways. Roy and Moss are both socially awkward computer geeks. And Jen doesn't know a thing about the computer. She even thinks IT stands for 'Internet Thing'. So whenever Roy and Moss mess with Jen, it works great every time.

Moss introduce Jen 'the internet'

Even though the company is solely dependent on its services for technical issues, the IT department is located in the messy, cluttered basement of the building. Also, they never get any credit for their work. As a team, they have the ultimate goal of working in an office that they can enjoy the stunning London view with the rest of the organization. Will their dreams come true? You will see for yourself!

P.S. Do not expect any tips for computers, all you can learn from them is...

2. Miranda

'Miranda' is a sitcom series written by and starring English comedian Miranda Hart. She is 185 cm tall and often mistaken for a man. She owns a joke shop, but actually, her childhood friend Stevie(Sarah Hadland) runs the business.

Anyway, Miranda's only interest is the owner of the restaurant next door, Gary(Tom Ellis). They are friends from university. However, since they got to spend more time together, things seemed to begin to change.

Her mum, Penny(Patricia Hodge), thinks Miranda is a constant disappointment to her. Because Miranda keeps putting herself in socially awkward situations, especially around men, and it's the opposite of Penny's desperation for finding her daughter a husband.

Please don't think people hate Miranda, though! You'll find out everyone around her loves her dearly, including her perfect imperfections. For this show is developed from her semi-autobiographical comedy 'Miranda Hart's Joke Shop', you can learn many things about real Miranda Hart as well; From her childhood dreams to her struggle as a socially inept adult to fit in.

Whenever she made serious problems sound funny or get over the sticky situations in brilliant ways, it gives me a good laugh and makes me happy. I promise you'll be able to forget all your problems and worries with Miranda.

3. My Mad Fat Diary

After you got a good laugh from the previous two shows, now it's time to get a little bit serious.

In Stamford, Lincolnshire, in the mid-'90s, there is a girl called Rae Earl(Sharon Rooney). She is sick. She hates herself, especially her body, which weighs 106kg. She had to spend four months in a psychiatric hospital after she hurt herself. Her only friend was her diary. Thanks to her best friend, Chloe(Jodie Comer), She got to have real friends, 'the gang'.

This show goes from her point of view, and it made me feel like I was reading her diary secretly. Everyone has something you can write in your diaries but can't tell your friends or families, especially when you're a teenager with the most egocentric and self-conscious thoughts going on your head all day.

Rae has complicated relationships with a lot of people around her; her mom and stepdad, Chloe, her doctor, and the guy she's in love with.

You won't be able to stop watching every episode until you find out if Rae finally reconnected with the world and become 'normal' as she's always wanted to.

One more thing, if you're a big 90's Britpop fan, you will love this show. You will just love it because the most beloved companion of Rae is Damon Albarn, and other rock stars have essential roles in this show as well.

Do not miss out on soundtracks!
