General Hospital spoilers tease a Victor return but he really is dead at least for now

The lovable villain appears to really be dead and will not make a comeback at least for now.

Oh the possibilities that could become realities

General Hospital spoilers and fans are hoping Charles Shaughnessy might return someday as Victor Cassadine and it's quite possible. Shaughnessy himself has teased that his character could make a comeback someday and fans know that soap villains are rarely sincerely and truly dead, GH viewers saw him in the body bag and watched as Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stewart) said his goodbyes to his dastardly father.

Even so, there are several scenarios that could play out such as someone taking Victor's remains away and reviving him for a future comeback like Bo Brady (Peter Reckell) just did on Days of Our Lives. For now, at least Victor is gone and there are several reasons why he probably will not return unless something changes.

Victor will not make an immediate return

Uncle Vic like Julian Jerome (William deVry) and Ryan Chamberlain (Jon Lindstrom), was zipped in a body bag which appears to be General Hospital's way of saying a character has been ended since another Ryan nor Julian has returned (yet). In the case of Luke Spencer, his portrayer Anthony Geary was no longer on General Hospital so there were other creative ways to emphasize to the viewing audience that Luke was deceased.

Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) brought his ashes back to Port Charles and they were thrown overboard from the Haunted Star. Fans did not accept this and spoilers continued to suggest that Gear would reprise his role. The Haunted Star was blown up with Victor on board and Laura Collins (Genie Francis) told Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) that her ties to Luke and Victor ended when the boat was destroyed.

There are ways Shaughnessy's character could show up in Salem

Victor was unconscious when the ship exploded because Spencer hit him and he fell and struck his head on a table. The shock of the water should have revived him but it did not. Spencer was able to swim to safety but his uncle sustained additional injuries during the explosion and everyone else on board died. General Hospital does seem to be sending a message that the reign of the crazy Cassadnes is over but unlike Geary, Shaughnessey would love to remain on the soap.

He could always come back as a ghost the way Helena Cassadine (Constance Townes) does or perhaps Shaughnessy will be a new character only not as evil as Victor. The one thing that seems certain is that VIctor will not be returning anytime soon because his family needs to heal. Anna Devane (Finila Hughes) and Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stewart) now have a chance at a real relationship without the specter of Victor and the Cassadine curse hanging over their heads.

General Hospital has other storylines to navigate

Perhaps now General Hospital will get back to Ava Cassadine (Maura West) and what really happened to Nikolas Cassadine (Adam Haas) Viewers are hoping the character won't be missing again for close to 3 years as he had in the past. If Victor were to return he would have to answer for all of his recent crimes which means he would be incarcerated. Something spectacular would have to be done in order for him to walk free.

As much as General Hospital fans love Charles Shaughnessy he would not be the same as any other Port Charles character which would be a letdown. There are not any easy answers to this dilemma and just letting him go seems harsh, Shaughnessy's Victor is by far the best as he was the most ruthless as well as a suave, charming gentleman all wrapped up in one package. Perhaps the actor might reprise his role as SHane Donovan on Days of Our Lives considering his son Andrew Donovan Colton Little is possibly being held hostage so stay tuned for Shaughnessy updates.
