Gabarkund Ending Explained: The Cursed Well, Hidden Gold and Diliya’s Shocking Secret (Spoilers)

Gabarkund is a supernatural horror thriller built around an irresistible but deadly idea: a cursed well contains a fortune in gold, but nobody who tries to take the treasure returns alive.

The gold is protected by terrifying supernatural forces, including a mysterious female spirit and a deadly serpent. For generations, villagers have stayed away from the place. But when poverty pushes a desperate man named Diliya toward the treasure, he becomes involved in a conspiracy driven by greed, black magic and a secret connected to his own birth.

What initially appears to be a simple story about finding hidden gold eventually becomes a much darker tale about motherhood, inheritance, sacrifice and the destructive nature of greed.

How Did the Treasure End Up Inside the Cursed Well?

The movie begins in the past.

A wealthy zamindar lives an extravagant life and possesses a huge collection of gold and jewellery. One night, a group of bandits attacks his mansion. They kill his guards and demand that he surrender his wealth.

The zamindar refuses.

His resistance does not last long. The leader of the bandits kills him, and the attackers escape with his treasure.

However, greed quickly creates another betrayal.

One of the bandits, Dhura, decides that he wants the entire fortune for himself. He kills his own leader and takes possession of the stolen gold.

To hide the treasure from the remaining bandits, Dhura throws it inside a well.

But he never gets the opportunity to enjoy it.

A terrifying female supernatural entity appears and drags Dhura into the same well, killing him. From that moment, the gold effectively becomes trapped inside what will eventually be feared as Gabarkund.

Who Is Diliya?

The story then moves to the present.

Diliya is an extremely poor man struggling to support his family. He has tried different ways of earning money, but nothing has worked.

Despite his difficult circumstances, he does not want to abandon his village and move permanently to the city. He loves his land and wants to build a life there.

His wife, Soni, however, is exhausted by their poverty.

She repeatedly pressures him to go to the city and earn money. Diliya is also humiliated by the fact that they are dependent on his wife’s family.

Eventually, the arguments become too much.

Diliya gets on his motorcycle and heads toward the city.

That decision unexpectedly leads him to Gabarkund.

Diliya Accidentally Finds Gabarkund

While travelling, Diliya is chased by a pack of dogs.

Trying to escape them, he turns toward the forest and accidentally crosses the protective boundary villagers had created around the cursed well using rituals and religious practices.

Almost immediately, strange things begin happening.

Bats fly out of the well, frightening away the dogs.

Then Diliya hears a woman calling him.

The mysterious voice tells him that there is enormous wealth inside the well. If he takes the gold, all the suffering in his life can disappear.

Diliya is terrified and tries to leave.

But the supernatural woman grabs his leg and begins dragging him toward the well.

Believing that he is about to die, Diliya desperately cries out for his mother.

Something unexpected happens.

The spirit releases him.

Diliya escapes.

At first, it seems like he survived because of luck or divine intervention. The real reason is revealed much later.

Why Are the Villagers Terrified of Gabarkund?

Diliya tells the villagers what happened.

They are shocked that he survived.

According to village history, nobody who has gone after Gabarkund’s treasure has returned alive. The gold is protected by supernatural forces, and even speaking about the cursed place at night is considered dangerous.

The villagers tell Diliya to forget about the treasure and consider himself fortunate to be alive.

But other people have already discovered something important about him.

Diliya may be the only person capable of reaching the gold.

Why Is Diliya Chosen to Enter the Well?

A powerful group has apparently been waiting for an opportunity to retrieve Gabarkund’s treasure for decades.

A police officer working with the group becomes interested in Diliya’s birth details.

According to a Baba involved in occult practices, Diliya’s astrological circumstances make him special. His Ashwini Nakshatra and other birth-related details supposedly allow him to approach the treasure.

The Baba believes Diliya can do something the others cannot.

He can reach the gold.

The group also includes Khangri, a woman named Devi and her young daughter Suli.

Their plan is to enter Gabarkund during the full moon and perform the necessary rituals to overcome the supernatural forces guarding the treasure.

There is another secret as well.

Dhura, the bandit who originally hid the gold inside the well, was Khangri’s ancestor.

For Khangri, getting the treasure is therefore the completion of a dream his family has carried for generations.

Why Does Diliya Agree to Search for the Gold?

Initially, Diliya refuses.

He remembers what happened the first time he approached the well and knows that the villagers consider Gabarkund a death trap.

But his poverty is used against him.

He is repeatedly reminded that the treasure could completely transform his family’s future. The pressure and humiliation eventually become unbearable.

At one point, Diliya decides that even if he has to risk his life, the gold could at least secure a better life for his family.

He briefly considers abandoning the entire idea and going to the city instead.

He even boards a bus.

But thoughts of his wife and their future make him change his mind.

Diliya returns.

He is going to enter Gabarkund.

The Full Moon Ritual Begins

When Diliya arrives, the others are already preparing to enter the well.

The Baba performs rituals and chants mantras. They also bring a goat that is supposed to be used as a sacrifice.

Almost immediately, the supernatural guardians begin reacting.

Bats attack.

A snake moves around them.

The Baba uses his occult powers to fight back against some of the supernatural threats.

The group eventually begins descending into the underground cave system.

But their escape route is compromised when the rope they used to enter is removed from above.

They are now trapped inside.

And the deeper they travel, the more powerful the supernatural presence becomes.

What Happens to Suli?

Inside the cave, they hear the mysterious female spirit singing a lullaby.

At first, the sound is terrifyingly intense.

Then it becomes strangely beautiful.

The Baba prepares Suli as part of the ritual, placing ritual substances on her forehead and making her unconscious.

But when everyone looks toward the sound, they see a horrifying sight.

The supernatural woman is holding Suli in her arms and singing to her.

Devi desperately attempts to rescue her daughter, but the spirit throws her away using supernatural power.

Others try to intervene and fail.

The Baba cannot fully control the entity either.

At the same time, Diliya experiences a vision that finally reveals the truth behind Gabarkund.

Who Is the Witch Protecting the Gold?

This is the central revelation of Gabarkund.

In the past, the zamindar had a woman associated with him who was pregnant.

She had spent her savings collecting gold and jewellery for her future child.

During the bandits’ attack, she tried to hide.

She was discovered and killed.

Her gold eventually became part of the treasure Dhura carried away and hid inside the well.

The supernatural woman guarding Gabarkund is this same dead woman.

Her spirit has remained attached to the treasure.

But the biggest revelation is still to come.

Diliya’s Shocking Connection to the Spirit

After Diliya regains consciousness, the group finally reaches the treasure.

Everyone is overwhelmed with excitement.

Diliya approaches the gold and touches it, but a supernatural force throws him away.

Chaos erupts.

Dark entities begin possessing members of the group, turning them against one another.

During the confrontation, the Baba tells Diliya that the bundle connected to the treasure must be burned. Destroying it could free them from the supernatural forces.

Diliya prepares to throw it into the fire.

That is when the spirit reveals the truth.

She explains why she spared Diliya during their first encounter.

When Diliya was being dragged toward the well, he cried out for his mother.

The spirit released him because, according to the revelation, she is Diliya’s mother.

Diliya is connected to the child the woman was carrying when she died.

More importantly, the treasure she has been protecting was meant for her child.

That means the gold rightfully belongs to Diliya.

The terrifying spirit was not simply protecting treasure out of evil or greed.

She was protecting her child’s inheritance.

This completely changes the meaning of everything that happened earlier.

Why Did the Spirit Spare Diliya?

The earlier scene now makes sense.

The supernatural woman could easily have killed Diliya when he first discovered Gabarkund.

Instead, she released him the moment he called for his mother.

It was a clue.

Some connection existed between them long before Diliya understood it.

The spirit’s attachment to the gold was therefore also an attachment to Diliya.

The fortune hidden inside Gabarkund represents something she wanted to preserve for her child.

Unfortunately, everyone else approaching the treasure was motivated primarily by greed.

That is why Gabarkund became a place of death.

What Happens to the Treasure?

During the confusion, the bundle falls into the fire.

Once it burns, the supernatural spirit leaves Devi’s body.

But the danger is still not over.

Suli approaches the treasure and picks up a gold chain for her doll.

There is still one major condition attached to taking anything from Gabarkund.

A sacrifice must be made.

The goat originally intended for the ritual has escaped.

Khangri therefore makes a horrifying decision.

He intends to sacrifice Suli instead.

Diliya intervenes to save the child.

Devi also fights to protect her daughter.

A violent confrontation follows, and Khangri is eventually stabbed.

Then water begins filling the underground area.

The survivors desperately search for a way out until a rope is thrown down from above, allowing Diliya and the child to escape while others are left behind as the cursed place fills with water.

Gabarkund Ending Explained: What Does the Gold Chain Mean?

The final twist comes after they escape.

A gold chain taken from Gabarkund has made it outside the well.

That should sound like a victory.

It is not.

Diliya remembers the Baba’s warning.

The treasure cannot simply be taken and enjoyed.

A sacrifice is required.

According to the warning, if somebody uses or enjoys the treasure without completing the necessary sacrifice, the consequences could spread beyond that individual.

Their entire family line could be destroyed.

That means escaping Gabarkund does not necessarily end the curse.

The gold chain creates one final question:

Has the curse escaped from the well with them?

Is Diliya Safe at the End of Gabarkund?

Physically, Diliya survives the journey.

But the ending deliberately refuses to give him complete safety.

His discovery that the spirit was connected to his mother explains why he was different from everyone else who tried to reach the treasure.

He had a genuine connection to the gold.

But inheritance does not automatically remove the supernatural rules surrounding Gabarkund.

The chain taken from the treasure could still carry deadly consequences.

Instead of ending with Diliya becoming rich, the movie turns its supposedly valuable treasure into another threat.

That is important because Gabarkund is ultimately not really about becoming wealthy.

It is about what people are willing to sacrifice for wealth.

The Real Meaning of Gabarkund’s Ending

Almost every major character is tempted or destroyed by greed.

Dhura betrays his own leader because he wants all the gold.

Khangri spends years dreaming about reclaiming the treasure connected to his ancestor.

The occult group is prepared to perform dangerous rituals and even sacrifice innocent life for wealth.

Diliya is different.

He is tempted by the gold because he genuinely wants to escape poverty and provide for his family.

That motivation makes him more sympathetic, but the movie still forces him to confront the cost of pursuing the treasure.

The biggest irony is that the gold really does belong to him.

His mother’s spirit has spent generations protecting what was meant for her child.

Yet by the time Diliya discovers the truth, Gabarkund has become so deeply connected to death, greed and sacrifice that possessing the treasure may be more dangerous than remaining poor.

The final gold chain therefore works as the perfect horror ending.

The characters may have escaped the cursed well.

But they may have carried the curse home with them.

And that lingering threat is what gives Gabarkund its final chilling twist.
