Be realistic. That relationship between Maya (Nathalie Emmanuel) and Duffy (John Reynolds) was never going to last. When Maya enters the party at the beginning of the episode, while it’s obvious Maya is actively avoiding immediately going to Duffy, there is something you might have missed.

As Maya walks over to Gemma (Zoe Boyle), Kash (Nikesh Patel) is looking at Maya. That part you may have picked up on. Whenever Maya is in the room, Kash finds it difficult to not be looking in her direction. Which direction is Duffy looking, because it wasn’t towards his girlfriend? That’s right. Duffy was looking at Kash.

Later, while the scene on the Millennium Bridge was heartbreakingly painful for anyone hoping Maya and Duffy would remain together, it wasn’t completely unexpected. It was only a matter of time before they were to have a conversation about the relationship.

Duffy has been in love with Maya ever since their college days, but Maya has never felt the same way about him. It’s obvious from Maya’s reaction to Zara suggesting there could be wedding bells in the immediate future for her and Duffy that she doesn’t see the relationship going there.

Kash has been interested in Maya from the very first moment he saw her. Like Kash, Maya has been interested in him. Why else would she have described Kash to Ainsley (Rebecca Rittenhouse) as a Ryan Gosling dipped in Caramel? At the time, Maya wasn’t aware she was describing Ainsley’s then-fiancé to Ainsley. It wasn’t until later in the first episode that either Maya or Kash realised the predicament they were in.

The party everyone is attending at the beginning of this sixth episode is for Craig’s big announcement. What could it be? At the close of "Love, Chalet," we saw Zara (Sophia La Porta) do that gesture she does when she needs Craig (Brandon Mychal Smith) to save her from someone or something. Kara and Craig are getting married.

Keeping with the theme of the previous episode, Kara and Craig are to have a wedding ceremony fit for royalty. The ceremony will take place “in a real palace” where the cameras will be focused on them and their story.

Even though most of their friends have indicated they will be attending the wedding, the same can’t be said for Ainsley. Ainsley, adamant that she will not attend the wedding, is uncomfortable with Kash being at every social engagement. She’s still bitter that Kash left her standing at the church altar.

Meanwhile, as we have surmised with Kash, Maya is having difficulty keeping her mind on Duffy, because it constantly drifts in Kash’s direction.

Screen Capture: Rakhee Thakrar as Fatima in the ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’ episode “Lights, Camera, Wedding.” In the foreground and out of focus, playing Kash, is Nikesh Patel.

On the way home from the wedding, Fatima tells Kash how she feels about Basheer. She tells Kash the real reason that she looks forward to her dates with him is that she gets to spend time with Basheer. The only reason she met Basheer is that he agreed to be Kash’s chaperone while he and Fatima “dated.” It was a ‘re-arranged marriage’ thing.

The episode closes with Duffy, before walking away, telling Maya that he knows about her and Kash.
