FIX wins Best Short at New York International Film Festival
FIX turns heads at New York International Film Festival
(New York, NY - October 21st 2022) - Winning Best Short Film at the New York International Film Awards on October 6th 2022, the drama short film “FIX” collects yet another accolade in its festival run.
The New York International Film Awards provides opportunities for emerging and established filmmakers to showcase their work in the heart of New York City and celebrate their excellence in film. It provides filmmakers the opportunity to illustrate their work and network with industry professionals interested in collaborating.
Produced by Soukaina Alaoui El Hassani, directed by Madeline “Madge” Conway, and written and co-produced by Vincent Van der Velde the short film is a drama that is set against a dark and always buzzing New York City backdrop. When Thomas spots an old flame at a bar, they reconnect in unexpected ways. The film is a personal yet universal story.
Madge is an Australian actor, writer, and creative artist currently based in New York City. A recent graduate of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, she has an aptitude and desire for producing the film, theater, and performance art using a variety of creative mediums. Madge met Van der Velde at Stella Adler, where they formed a friendship, and eventually with “FIX” a creative partnership.
With “FIX,” Director Madge and Director of Photography Taha Aziz set out to push the boundaries of the film by bringing in avant-garde theatrical elements. Using her theater background, Madge elevated the film to showcase a poignant portrait of the toxic human disposition.
“A huge thanks to everyone involved in the making of FIX,” says Van der Velde, “From Madge, who immediately said YES and together with me stepped out of her comfort zone and brought to life both of our visions, to the entire crew and Souki - our producer for their hard work, patience, and massive talent.”
Also a huge thanks to all the supporters on Indiegogo,” continues Van der Velde. “With a particular thanks to my family and friends of Lokomotiv Centrum for their never-ending support. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
The film also stars Destry Bell, John Beltre, Samuel Wentzel, and Addison Thompson. The film boasts a hard-working and passionate crew consisting of Taha Aziz as Director of Photography, Katie Colwell as 1st AC, Best Boy, and Editor, with Matt Liang as 2nd AC and Gaffer, Larissa Hanna as Colorist, and Juan Nicolas Gonzales as Sound Editor.
After winning best short award at the New York International Film festival and best producer award at Oniros Film Festival FIX is screened in the heart of New York City at Cinema Village.
For Vincent Van der Velde, who moved to the city five years ago to pursue his love for acting at the Stella Adler Studio, FIX’s success is both a surprise and a confirmation: “It’s hard to fathom that my first ever script not only got picked up by such a talented bunch of people, leading to a beautiful end result, it is now also being recognized as such by peers from the industry.”
“The screening of this film was so well recieved. People genuinely related to the characters and relationships in this film, ” says Alaoui El Hassani. "I’m so happy that all the hard work the team has put in is being recognized. If anyone is deserving of this award, it’s this cast & crew.”
“FIX” premieres an original score authored by Margaux Van der Velde, Thomas Van der Velde and Joes Brands and produced by Joes Brands at SputnikStudio in Belgium.
