First time watching two versions of Pinocchio‘s (1940) and (2022)

I have both Disney versions of Pinocchio, the 1940 animated version and the 2022 live action starring Tom Hanks and Cynthia Ervio. This is my first time watching the Disney versions of Pinocchio since I didn’t watch both of them before but I have watched ABCs television film Geppetto and another live action of Pinocchio with late actor Martin Landau and Jonathan Taylor Thomas.

1940

The film opens with Jiminy the cricket singing “when you wish upon a star”, he tells the audience the story about Pinocchio. A man named Geppetto, A puppeteer, living in a shop with his black and white cat Figaro and Cleo, the goldfish. Plus Jimmy was portrayed in the story as a homeless bug in Geppetto store where there was wooden puppets when clocks and when toys. Jimmy the cricket ladies eyes on Geppetto’s new creation which is Pinocchio, the wooded boy. Geppetto made final adjustments on Pinocchio and he was finished. It was time for them to go to bed and Geppetto saw a wishing star and made a wish upon a star that Pinocchio becomes a real boy.

Everybody fell asleep until a bright light entered through the window inside Geppetto‘s home not waking everybody up except for Jimmy the cricket when is the whole scenery. Turns out the light was actually a blue fairy making Geppetto‘s wish come true. The blue fairy was a blonde. She puts a wish on Pinocchio waking him to make him look alive and he talks. Pinocchio looks at the fairy and promise the blue fairy that he’ll be brave and true in order to be a real boy. The blue Fairy dubbed Jiminy cricket as Pinocchios conscience And He promised to watch over Pinocchio wherever he goes. Geppetto wakes up from a noise coming from Pinocchio. Geppetto was surprised and excited to see that Pinocchio has become real and his wish has come true. They dance and sing. Geppetto prepares Pinocchio to go to school while he was on his way he meets Gideon the cat and Honest John the fox, who’s not really honest at all and tricks Pinocchio to join the theatre. However it was a trick just to sell Pinocchio. During his first show they were puppets from different country singing his song “ain’t got no strings”

The show was a success and the audience paid him well. Meanwhile Geppetto’s at the house alone and worried on Pinocchio’s whereabouts. Stromboli was so happy that his show was success that he kept Pinocchio as a working slave for his shows. Luckily the blue fairy came and rescue him and reminded Pinocchio if he do it again he’ll be made out of wood forever. Meanwhile John and Gideon has a new job to get big money to collect boys to take them to this place called “Pleasure Island” to turn them into jackass or donkeys pretty much like child trafficking or human trafficking. The two would see Pinocchio again and trick him again to Pleasure Island. No lie pleasure island sounds like a creepy place. Pinocchio befriends a boy named Lampwick playing pool and smoking cigars. Like wtf!!!

Until both of them turn into horrifying jackasses.

Pinocchio made the decision to go home but nobody was home until the blue fairy delivers a message to Pinocchio that Geppetto is alive and living in a whale. Pinocchio and jimmy the cricket heads to the ocean to find him.

Inside the whale, Geppetto is alive with Fiagro and Cleo wailing for food. Whale wakes up to collect food. Pinocchio get swallowed by the whale and Geppetto and him reunite. Pinocchio develops a plan to set the whale on fire to make him sneeze. Well it worked until he gets mad and tries to kill them. In the end, Pinocchio saves Geppetto and he gets transformed into a real boy.

2022

In the 2022 version, the film opens the same way as the original except Jiminy the cricket (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt) singing the end of the intro then tells the story of Pinocchio. He does talk like the 1940 version. He sees Geppetto (played by Tom Hanks) looks exactly like the 1940 only different. No lie he’s not much of a good singer just saying. He made the finishing touches on Pinocchio to resemble his son. Cleo, the fish and Figaro, the cat looks exactly like the 1940. Before everybody went to sleep geppetto make a wish upon a star to make obviously Pinocchio into a real boy. Everybody falls asleep a blue light flash at the picture of Geppetto’s son then at Pinocchio (played by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) then he becomes alive. Then we meet the Blue Fairy (played by Cynthia Erivo) she looks so beautiful, bright, and glittery, Has a great accent for blue fairy and a beautiful voice singing “When You Wish Upon a Star”

The amazing part about this film is that Geppetto’s wooden Cuckoo clocks resembled one of Disney’s films like Snow White, Dumbo and the Lion King.

When Pinocchio was on his way to school, he meets Honest John (played by Keegan-Michael Kay) singing and Gideon not talking they see Pinocchio. The most disgusting thing was when Pinocchio was looking at some piles of sh*t. That was weird as f. John and Gideon Shrek Pinocchio like in the 1940. Thankfully the cricket stop him and Pinocchio went to school but got kicked out. So Pinocchio made the decision to become an actor and listened to Honest John. At the Stromboli’s (played by Giuseppe Battiston) introduces the audience to Pinocchio and we all know what happens Except when Pinocchio’s shoes caught on fire. The newest part of the film was the girl in the film, Fabiana (played by Kyanne Lamaya), she seems nice and sweet, British, becomes fast friends. She’s not only a puppeteer but a former ballerina with a horrible leg injury with a puppet ballerina named Sabina (played by Jaquita Ta'le) speaks with a French accent. Pinocchio becomes free and catches a ride on to pleasure island this time with a group of boys and girls heading to pleasure island not just boys this time. In the 2022 film, Pleasure island looks fascinating everything fun filled and rule breaking. On the other hand Pinocchio was not really pleased and seemed really sad. At least Lampwick and Pinocchio aren’t smoking cigars in the film. After Pinocchio and Lampwick transform into jackasses, the man who owns Pleasure Island chased after him luckily Pinocchio escaped. We see Sabina and Fabiana again at the shore they found Pinocchio wanted him to join them for their show but Pinocchio wanted to go find his father Geppetto. The ending was different instead of Pinocchio believing that he dies it was Geppetto but don’t worry he becomes alive and Pinocchio does become somewhat of a real boy. Both of the films have great resemblances with each other. Joseph did an amazing job as the cricket in the 2022 version. The costumes and the make up resembled exactly like the original film. The 2022 version writing was clever. CGI were incredibly made. The 1940 animation was amazing. Both of the music and score was fantastic making the astonishing. The ending in 2022 wasn’t all that it could’ve been like another child boy acted transform into a boy Or like some magic transform him into a boy.
