I have been watching both old and recently released drama series and have fallen in love with a Turkish language drama series titled Erkenci Kus (Early Bird or Day Dreamer in English). I found out about it on social media (Thank you Instagram for bombarding me with Reels) and I haven’t been disappointed. I think the appeal stems from the fact that the male lead actor is a gorgeous hunk and my current crush (sorry Chris, Chris, and Rege😎😎)

Just kidding! 😀😀 Erkenci Kus is hilarious and an endless source of drama plus the 2 leads share a beautiful chemistry. Watching has also given me the opportunity to learn a little about Turkey

About this series

Erkenci Kus is a 2018 Turkish language romantic comedy TV drama series written by Asli Zengin, Banu Zengin Tak and Ayse Kutli and directed by Cagri Bayrak. The series casts Demet Ozdemir and Can Yaman as leads as well as Birand Tunca, Oznur Serceler, Ozlem Tokaslan, Berat Yenilmez, Ceren Tasci, Sibel Sisman, Tugce Kumral and Sevcan Yasar among others

Synopsis

Sanem Aydin (Demet Ozdemir) is the starry-eyed daughter of Nihat and Mevkibe Aydin (Berat Yenilmez and Ozlem Tokaslan) whose dream is to be a novelist and live on the Galapagos Islands. Although she helps manage her parent's grocery store, they have given her an ultimatum to get a proper job or be married off. Aghast that her parents have given permission to their neighbor’s son Muzaffer (Cihan Ercan) to formally request for her hand, she pressures her sister, Leyla (Oznur Serceler) to get her a job as an office assistant at the advertising firm where she works.

The firm is run by Mr Aziz Divit (Ahmet Somers) and his sons Jan (Can Yaman) and Emre (Birand Tunca). Mr Aziz and Emre do the actual running of the business. Jan is a world-class photographer with a preference for travel and the outdoors. Sanem’s interview coincides with the company’s 40th-anniversary celebrations. Mr Aziz informs his sons that he will be taking a vacation although the company lawyer has secretly informed Jan that he is actually taking the time to attend to his health.

Mr Aziz asks Jan to take over the creative side of the business and leave the financials to Emre. Unknown to everyone, Emre is conniving with his girlfriend and disgraced ex-staff Aylin (Sevcan Yasar) to sabotage the company and steal business away from them. With Jan in charge, Emre can no longer funnel information and company secrets to Aylin with which to undercut his father’s company. Mr Aziz knows Aylin only succeeds because of insider information and directs Jan to fish out the culprit.

At the celebrations, Sanem loses her way and wanders into the wrong hall. Jan and his girlfriend Polen (Kimya Aytac) have agreed to meet there. While Sanem is wandering around in the dark room, Jan comes in and kisses her mistaking her for Polen. Disoriented and confused, Sanem runs out of the hall. She does not know who kissed her. Jan realizes the person he kissed is not Polen. Sanem intends to find out her secret kisser nicknaming him her 'albatross'

Through myriad twists, turns, high drama, and several crazy escapades, Sanem manages to get herself into one problem after another. Emre decides to clandestinely use her for his nefarious schemes. He blackmails her by helping her pay off her father’s debt and then having her steal company information and documents from Jan. Sanem and Jan sense a growing attraction between them but Emre has poisoned her mind against Jan lying that he wants to increase the company stock value before selling it off.
