Entergalactic is visually stunning

From the mind of Kid Cudi comes this amazing animated film

Netflix has sat atop the streaming wars for years. Only recently have other platforms been able to make a dent. The reason being is Netflix has original content for any and all fans. The quality of that content is up for debate at times but you can still find anything you are looking for. The most recent example of this is an adult animated film titled Entergalatic.

From the mind of Scott Mescudi known to many as Kid Cudi comes this story of love and acceptance. Jabari is a struggling comic artist who has recently gone through a break up and is trying to find out who he wants to be. When he gets a new apartment he meets his new neighbour Meadow who immediately turns his world upside down. Jabari and Meadow begin to grow closer but suddenly his ex wants to rekindle the old flame and that forces Jabari into a choice.

Entergalatic proves you can take what is expected of a genre and make it refreshing and fun. Combining powerful visuals with a wonderful original soundtrack helps Entergalatic appeal to all the senses and it gives a complete edge over everything else. From beginning to end it is a fully immersive product that gives your eyes and ears a delightful way to pass the time.

One of the coolest things about this film is that despite the fact it is animated all the characters are designed to look like the actor or actress doing the voice work. Jabari is voiced by Mescudi himself in the film. Meadow is voiced by Jessica Williams. Jabari's two best friends are voiced by Ty Dolla Sign and Timothee Chalamet. You can clearly see the resemblance if you know who these people are. That to me makes the film feel more real. You imagine it is Jabari telling the story through his own mind and keeping the likeness of everyone he knew along the way.

This is a style that deserves more attention. The detail, the adult themes, the trippy visuals as the music plays. It was as close to an animated musical as you can get without all the annoying breaking into song. It allowed you to both see the emotion on display and the soundtrack took you on an even wilder ride through the context of the story. It truly is a stunning film as it plays out. You never quite know what is in store for you next, both visually and musically. Mescudi proves he is a solid writer, actor and of course as we already knew a musician. He is a modern jack of all trades. Even if you don't find yourself a fan of his music traditionally this is a way for you to look past that and just enjoy the visual treats that Entergalatic has to offer.

We need more movies like this that are willing to take bold risks. Good or bad. The opinions of the audience should not change the willingness to take big swings at story telling and formatting. If anything it seems like the fear of failure is what stops us from having more films of this nature which results in more generic pop culture content. This film gaining exposure and doing well with audiences will hopefully be a game changer for artists and the format they choose for their story. When Netflix first jumped on the scene that is what it was. A place where the confines of a major movie studio didn't exist and this type of story was allowed to flourish. It would be fantastic to see a day where that returns and movies like this certainly make me long for more of that.
