Edna Mode Conspiracy Theory

Is there more to the super-designer than what's on the surface?

*WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS TO THE INCREDIBLES 2*

After 14 long awaited years, Disney finally released the sequel to the beloved animated film, The Incredibles. In the new movie, each character's powers are pushed to the limit as they fight their biggest rival yet. Even the youngest Incredible, Jack-Jack, must learn to control his newfound powers in order to help save the day.

As you may recall, at the end of the first movie, Syndrome captures baby Jack-Jack as revenge against the Parr family. Unbeknownst to the Parrs, Jack-Jack makes his escape by shape-shifting into a variety of different forms, including his body metalizing and combusting. This shocks Syndrome into dropping him mid-air and ultimately getting sucked into a plane propeller. In The Incredibles 2, we learn that Jack-Jack also has the ability to multiply, transport between dimensions, shoot lasers through his eyes, and much more.

Now rewind back to the first movie. Remember the scene where Ellen AKA Elastigirl visits the ever-so-iconic designer Edna Mode? She discovers that her husband, Bob, had recently commissioned Edna to design new supersuits for him and his family. In the scene, Edna presents her work to Ellen. Despite not having powers yet, Edna still made a suit for Jack-Jack. Recall that she included some special features into the supersuit: bulletproof and fireproof fabric. Now this may just be a lucky guess, but come on. Out of every superpower possible, how did she know that Jack-Jack would have a use for flame retardant fabrics?

The answer is simple. Edna is a super. Yes, the Edna Mode is a superhero. Her power? Telling the future. She knew that Jack-Jack would have a wide variety of abilities and tried to cover some of the more likely possibilities. She uses her abilities to make the most ideal supersuits for her clients. By predicting the future, she can see any issue that may arise with her designs. Except for one, however.

Think even further back to the scene where Bob first visits Edna. Bob begins to make suggestions for his new suit, listing off ideas and requesting a cape. "No capes!" Edna snaps. She then goes off into a tirade about the dangers of capes, mentioning the many heroes who were injured or killed by their capes getting caught. She clearly feels very strongly about this.

These strong feelings can only stem from a personal experience. What if she designed these caped costumes? Obviously, she would feel guilty for being a part of these heroes demise, but it might be even more than that. Edna did not foresee these issues. Her future-seeing powers failed her and she caused these deaths. She is now wrought with guilt because she should have seen it coming, but didn't. Edna now must work super carefully to avoid such tragedies. She clearly blames herself for the mistake.

However, one must question: where did Syndrome get his villain suit? Did Edna make it? She has a history of predicting all of the threats made to Incredibles. She could have made Syndrome's suit knowing that he was planning to attack the family. Edna may have used her powers to foresee that he was a danger and purposefully added a cape to further disadvantage him.

Now, why wouldn't Edna just warn the Parr family of Syndrome's potential plans? The same reason she didn't tell Ellen about Jack-Jack's superpowers: it's all a secret. No one, not even her clients, know of her abilities. She does not want to be taken advantage of and remains in the shadows along with the other hidden supers.

Now this is all just a theory. It makes a lot of sense to me, but there are holes in it. Maybe this is all just a big coincidence. Or is it...?

Heres another one! Btw this is not mine, this persons name on youtube is chatteringbox. Anyway here it is: Here's a theory you can read while listening to this music: I think Edna Mode is responsible for most of the action in the Incredibles. Think about it: she's a fashion designer for world-saving heroes, notably the BEST. Of course Syndrome would want a design of a costume from the best. He meets up with Edna tells her about his pain and plan for domination, and she gives him the suit. She knows where Mr. Incredible is and what he's been doing; it's been hinted many times. Then, the Incredibles' family needed new suits, which Edna is happy to provide, and after the supers make their return, their legacy, along with her's, is restored. And to make sure the heroes win and Syndrome fails, she designs his suit...with a cape.
