Spoiler Warning: This article contains major spoilers for Dridam, including the complete story, murder mystery, robbery investigation, climax, and ending.

Dridam Movie Story Explained

Dridam begins with Vijay, a young police officer who has just started his career.

His first posting takes him far away from the city to Kuzhinilam, a quiet area where serious crimes are almost unheard of. At first, Vijay is disappointed about being sent to such a remote place, but he soon realizes that the posting could actually be easy.

The town is peaceful, the police station has very little serious work, and Vijay begins getting comfortable with his new surroundings.

At the station, he meets ASI Krishnan and other officers including Bala, Sathya, Anand, Vivek, Vidya and Rima.

Because the station currently has no inspector, Vijay is temporarily given additional responsibility.

Vijay quickly proves that he is different from some of the officers around him.

When the owner of a local bar attempts to give him money disguised as a gift, Vijay refuses. Krishnan explains that officers sometimes accept such money to help cover station-related expenses, but Vijay makes it clear that he does not want to be involved in anything resembling corruption.

For a while, his new life remains peaceful.

Then everything changes.

A Severed Hand Reveals a Murder

While an abandoned piece of land is being cleaned, workers discover a severed human hand.

Vijay and his team arrive at the scene and begin searching the area.

A buried body is eventually discovered nearby.

The forensic examination reveals that the victim is approximately 30 to 35 years old and appears to have been killed after being struck on the back of the head with something similar to an iron rod.

For a region known for having almost no serious crime, the murder creates panic.

Vijay begins investigating missing-person reports and searching for the victim's identity.

But before he can solve the murder, an even bigger crime takes place.

Aanamala Finance Robbery

Aanamala Finance is one of the most important financial institutions in the area.

Local residents deposit money and jewellery there, while others take high-interest loans.

One night, masked criminals attack the security guard and break into the building.

The robbers cut through a window grille and steal a locker containing cash and gold.

They also spray the CCTV cameras to prevent their faces from being recorded.

The robbery appears to have been carefully planned by people who understand the location extremely well.

Vijay initially suspects that four people may have been involved—three men entering the building and possibly another person waiting outside with a vehicle.

But there is almost no useful physical evidence.

Rain has destroyed potential footprints and fingerprints, while the isolated road around the finance building has no useful CCTV coverage.

Now Vijay has two major cases: an unexplained murder and a huge robbery.

Manoj and Saneesh Become Suspects

Several people have reasons to hate Aanamala Finance.

One of them is Manoj.

He had lost property because of debt and had previously threatened the finance company.

His sudden disappearance around the time of the crimes makes Vijay suspicious.

However, the investigation does not provide enough evidence to prove that Manoj committed the robbery or murder.

Another suspect is Saneesh.

His father suffered financially because of Aanamala Finance and later died by suicide.

Vijay even recognizes Saneesh as the mysterious man he had seen watching the investigation near the finance building.

But when Saneesh is eventually caught after attacking the owner of Aanamala Finance, he insists that he had nothing to do with either the robbery or murders.

His alibi is verified.

Once again, Vijay's investigation reaches a dead end.

More Bodies Are Discovered

The situation becomes much more disturbing when another body is found near a river.

The second victim appears to have been killed in exactly the same manner as the first: a powerful blow to the head.

Then a third body appears.

This victim is identified as Manikandan, one of four Tamil workers who had recently been living in the area.

The other men were Arul, Anbu and Kumar.

Eventually, investigators discover that some of the earlier unidentified bodies also belong to these workers.

Suddenly, the murder investigation and the Aanamala Finance robbery appear to be connected.

Were the Tamil Workers Behind the Robbery?

While searching the place where the Tamil workers had been staying, police apparently discover a card belonging to Aanamala Finance.

Even more importantly, a gold chain found with one of the victims is identified as jewellery stolen during the robbery.

Police also learn that the men had a criminal history connected with another robbery.

A convenient explanation begins forming.

Perhaps the Tamil workers robbed Aanamala Finance together.

Then Kumar may have killed his partners to keep the stolen money for himself before disappearing.

Even Vijay's senior officers want him to accept this version of events and close the investigation.

But Vijay believes something is still missing.

And one small clue eventually destroys the entire theory.

The Gold Chain Changes Everything

Police receive information from a jewellery shop in a nearby area.

A suspicious woman had visited the shop trying to sell a gold chain.

The jeweller took a photograph of it.

When Vijay sees the picture, he realizes that the chain appears to be part of the jewellery stolen from Aanamala Finance.

Vijay investigates the woman's movements.

After leaving the jewellery shop, she had visited a nearby pharmacy.

Police obtain information about the medicines purchased around that time.

The woman had bought medicine associated with treatment for a stroke patient.

Then another seemingly insignificant clue becomes extremely important.

A jewellery shop employee remembers hearing the woman's phone ringtone.

When Vijay learns what ringtone it was, something clicks in his mind.

He has heard that exact ringtone before.

At Anand's house.

Anand's mother is also a stroke patient.

The woman trying to sell the stolen jewellery is revealed to be Anand's wife, Anjana.

Now Vijay finally understands that someone inside the police station may have been involved in the robbery.

Dridam Ending Explained

Vijay confronts Anand.

He reveals that the robbery took place during a time when Anand and Vivek were supposedly assigned to patrol duty.

But there is another major clue.

Before the robbers sprayed the CCTV cameras, footage captured the reflection of vehicle headlights in water on the road.

One of the headlights was not functioning properly.

At that exact time, the police station's vehicle also had a faulty headlight.

The evidence begins pointing directly toward the police officers themselves.

Eventually, the shocking truth comes out.

Anand was involved in the robbery.

So were other officers.

Sathya, Vivek and Vidya were also part of the conspiracy.

And the mastermind behind everything was ASI Krishnan.

Why Did Krishnan and the Police Officers Commit the Crimes?

The conspiracy began with Arul's death.

Arul had been brought into police custody following a dispute involving the other Tamil workers.

During questioning, Arul attacked Sathya.

Sathya reacted violently and beat him so badly that Arul died.

The officers now faced a terrifying problem.

A man had died in police custody.

Instead of admitting what happened, they decided to cover up the killing.

Krishnan knew that Anbu, Kumar and Manikandan had a criminal background.

He therefore developed a larger plan that could solve multiple problems at once.

The corrupt officers secretly joined the Tamil men in planning the Aanamala Finance robbery.

Their intention was to commit the robbery and later blame everything—including Arul's death—on the Tamil criminals.

But after the robbery, the situation became more complicated.

The criminals demanded a larger share of the stolen money.

Even worse, they possessed information that could expose what had really happened to Arul.

Krishnan and the others decided they could no longer leave them alive.

What Happened to Anbu, Kumar and Manikandan?

The corrupt officers attacked their criminal partners.

Anbu and Kumar were killed.

Manikandan initially survived but was later murdered as part of the continuing cover-up.

The bodies were deliberately disposed of separately.

This was designed to confuse investigators and create the impression that Kumar had murdered the others and escaped with the stolen money.

Kumar's body was hidden so successfully that police would continue believing he was alive and on the run.

Even some of the evidence supposedly discovered during the investigation had been planted.

The Aanamala Finance card found at the Tamil workers' residence was secretly placed there by Sathya.

The very officers helping Vijay investigate the crimes had been manipulating the evidence from the beginning.

Why Do the Officers Try to Kill Vijay?

Once Vijay discovers the truth, Krishnan attempts to force him into cooperating.

If Vijay remains silent, the conspiracy can survive.

If he refuses, he becomes another problem that must be eliminated.

Vijay refuses to join them.

As he attempts to leave the station, Vidya suddenly attacks him.

This confirms that she is also part of the group.

The corrupt officers then turn on Vijay and attempt to kill him before he can expose them.

Vijay fights back, but he is heavily outnumbered.

Despite facing several experienced officers, he manages to survive long enough for help to arrive.

Rima and Bala alert the DSP office after realizing what is happening.

Additional police forces arrive at the station.

Vijay is rescued.

Krishnan and the other officers involved in the murders and robbery are finally caught.

Dridam Climax Meaning

The most effective part of Dridam is the way the story reverses its original premise.

Vijay believes he has been sent to one of the safest places possible.

There are almost no murders, robberies or serious crimes.

Yet after his arrival, the area suddenly experiences multiple murders and a major robbery.

The final revelation explains why.

The greatest threat was never outside the police station.

It was inside it.

The officers responsible for investigating the crimes were also responsible for creating and covering them up.

Vijay succeeds because he refuses to accept an easy explanation simply because his superiors want the case closed.

Every small inconsistency matters—the stolen gold chain, the medicine, the ringtone, the police vehicle's faulty headlight and the suspicious evidence connecting the Tamil workers to the robbery.

Together, those details expose the truth.

Final Thoughts

Dridam turns a seemingly straightforward police investigation into a story about corruption, loyalty and the danger of blindly trusting authority.

Vijay begins his career believing his first posting will be uneventful.

Instead, it becomes the biggest test of his life.

The movie's central question is disturbing but powerful: what happens when the people trusted to protect society become the criminals themselves?

Vijay's decision to keep investigating despite pressure from his seniors ultimately prevents innocent people from taking the blame and exposes the officers responsible for the entire conspiracy.

That is what makes the ending of Dridam memorable.
