Whenever a movie or web series revolves around medical crimes, my excitement automatically goes up. There’s something uniquely terrifying about stories set inside hospitals, where the people meant to save lives become part of an unsettling mystery. And when the content comes from Malayalam cinema, expectations naturally become even higher because the industry has consistently delivered some of the finest suspense thrillers in India.

Recently, I watched the Malayalam thriller Dose, now available in its Hindi-dubbed version, and it turned out to be an engaging blend of medical crime, suspense, and psychological drama.

The film runs for approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes and wastes no time introducing its eerie premise. The story is set inside a hospital where patients begin dying under mysterious circumstances. At first, these deaths appear to be unfortunate but natural incidents—something that hospitals occasionally deal with. However, as more patients start losing their lives under increasingly suspicious conditions, it becomes impossible to ignore that something sinister is happening behind the scenes.

The mystery deepens when a determined doctor decides to investigate the unusual deaths. As he digs deeper into the hospital's secrets, he uncovers disturbing truths that reveal a much darker reality than anyone expected. Soon, a detective joins forces with the doctor, and together they begin unraveling a conspiracy hidden beneath the hospital’s seemingly normal operations.

What follows is an intense investigation packed with unexpected revelations, dangerous discoveries, and twists that constantly challenge your assumptions. The biggest question remains: Can they stop the mysterious deaths before more innocent lives are lost?

One of the strongest aspects of Dose is its storytelling. The opening portion is intentionally slow, taking time to establish the hospital environment and introduce the key characters. While some viewers may find the first few minutes slightly slow-paced, the patience pays off. Once the investigation truly begins, the film steadily builds momentum and transforms into a gripping thriller.

Every new case raises fresh questions, and every clue leads to another layer of mystery. Just when you think you've figured everything out, the screenplay surprises you with another twist. The film constantly keeps your brain engaged, forcing you to rethink every theory you've formed. That's exactly what a great crime thriller should do.

The presentation deserves special appreciation. The hospital setting creates a tense atmosphere throughout the movie, and the cinematography complements the dark tone perfectly. Instead of relying on unnecessary action or loud background music, the film builds suspense through clever writing and realistic situations.

The performances are equally impressive. Every actor delivers a convincing performance, making the characters feel believable. The doctor and detective share excellent chemistry during the investigation, while the supporting cast adds emotional weight to the overall narrative. No performance feels exaggerated, which helps maintain the realism of the story.

The title Dose also carries meaningful symbolism. It doesn't refer to food but to the dosage of medicine. Throughout the film, medication becomes a central element of the mystery, making the title both clever and relevant to the story's core theme. It perfectly reflects how something intended to heal can become deadly when misused.

According to reports, the film was made on a modest budget of around ₹9 crore and went on to collect nearly ₹20 crore at the box office. Doubling its investment is certainly a respectable achievement, especially in an industry where many good films struggle to recover their production costs.

If you're a fan of medical crime stories, investigative thrillers, or suspense-driven Malayalam cinema, Dose is definitely worth adding to your watchlist. The Hindi dubbed version makes it accessible to a much wider audience, and the film is available on Lionsgate Play as well as several other OTT platforms, including Prime Video and Simply South, depending on your region.

Another positive aspect is that the movie remains largely family-friendly despite its dark subject matter. The suspense comes from the investigation and mystery rather than excessive violence or disturbing visuals.

Overall, Dose delivers exactly what fans of crime thrillers expect: a compelling mystery, intelligent twists, solid performances, and an engaging investigation that keeps you invested until the final reveal. It may begin slowly, but once it finds its rhythm, it becomes an absorbing thriller that rarely loses its grip.

My Rating: 3.5/5 Stars. If you're looking for a well-crafted Malayalam medical crime thriller with plenty of suspense and surprising twists, Dose deserves your time.
