Everything you want or need to know about Disney's new streaming service Disney+

Unless you've been hiding from the internet, you've probably heard about Disney's new streaming service that is set to launch soon. I know what you may be thinking, "just another streaming service I have to pay for," however, this one is going to be worth it.

Disney unveiled their idea for Disney Plus about a year ago and now it is becoming a reality on November 12, 2019. Disney+ is going to be a streaming service you'll want for a number of reasons, but one of the main ones is the price point. Disney is offering Disney+ for just $6.99 a month, which is about half of what their competitors are charging.

For $6.99 a month, streamers will be able to watch all of their favorite Disney shows and classic movies as well as all the intellectual property Disney now owns. This property includes Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, National Geographic and more. The only thing that will not be available on Disney+ is anything rated above PG-13, which does give competitors a slight edge.

On top of all of that content, Disney is also going to be making Disney+ originals for the streaming service as well. There will be Star Wars originals, Marvel originals, Disney originals, Disney reboots and Disney live action films all that are slated to happen.

Also, on top of the $6.99 a month price, Disney is offering bundles as well where you can purchase Disney+ for a full year instead of monthly. Disney+ is also offering a bundle where you can get Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ for $12.99, as they own all three of these properties. If you are interested in that bundle, you can check it out at the link below.

Disney has claimed there will be over 500 movies available to stream and 7,500 TV episodes out there as well. I believe this includes the Disney Classics as well as their originals. Disney also owns ABC, which is home to many great shows such as Modern Family and Black-ish, yet it is unclear so far if they will be available on Disney Plus.

Since Disney bought 21st Century Fox, they are going to be rebooting and reviving all of our old favorites such as Home Alone and Cheaper by the Dozen.

Now that you know the basics, here are a list of the originals that Disney has confirmed they are making for the Disney+ service.

Confirmed Marvel originals

  • Falcon and the Winter Soldier
  • Loki
  • WandaVision
  • Ms. Marvel
  • Moon Knight
  • She Hulk
  • Hawkeye

'Star Wars' originals

  • Mandalrion
  • Untitled Obi-Wan Kenobi series (with Ewan McGregor reprising his role!)

Pixar/Disney:

  • Monsters At Work
  • Lizzie McGuire reboot (with Hilary Duff reprising her role!)

Now the bad news: While Disney does own a lot of intellectual property, quite a few of their shows and films are currently in contracts with other streaming services such as Netflix. This means as they are currently on Netflix, or another streaming service, they will not be on Disney Plus on the day of the launch. BUT, they will be available by 2021 at the latest when most of the contracts expire. AND, to make up for it, there will be a handful of Disney Plus great originals that will be available the day the streaming service launches.

Here is what will for sure be on Disney Plus on the day of the launch:

Captain Marvel, Iron Man, Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World for the Marvel content. All others are in contracts and will be popping up one by one as their contracts expire. Marvel's entire library will be available to stream once all other contracts expire.

All Star Wars content will be available the day of the launch except for Star Wars: The Last Jedi which is still under contract.

All of Pixar's movies will be available the day of the launch except for Toy Story 4 which is not yet on DVD.

Original series content available on day one of streaming will be The Mandalorian (the Star Wars original), Forky Asks a Question (Pixar original), SparkShorts (Pixar original), Marvels Hero Project (a Marvel reality series), Encore (a reality series), High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (musical series), The Imagineering Story (documentary series), The World According to Jeff Goldblum (reality series).

And the only original movie content available on day one of streaming will be the live action Lady and the Tramp.

By the end of year one of streaming, Disney Plus will have most of the Marvel movies available to stream, as well as Star Wars: the Last Jedi, Solo, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and Toy Story 4.

Within the first year of streaming, there will also be more originals added such as The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (Marvel original), Marvels 616 (Marvel original), Lamp Life (Pixar original), Monsters At Work (Pixar original), Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Star Wars original), Be Our Chef (reality cooking show), Diary of a Female President, Rogue Trip, Magic of Animal Kingdom, and (Re)Connect.

There will also be a couple more original movies debuted during year one as well. Noelle, starring Anna Kendrick and Bill Hader, which will be a Christmas movie. There will also be a Phineas and Ferb movie and a small handful of others called Stargirl,Timmy Failure and Togo.

All of the above can be found on this article as well, which elaborates what each of the shows and movies are about:

Disney cleared has a packed slate right now and like the rest of their work, I'm expecting great things.

Be sure to catch the launch of Disney Plus on November 12th!
