DC Studios is finally happening!

DC has finally found their leaders. Rebranding under DC Studios it will be lead by James Gunn and Peter Safran. This news is hot on the heels of Cavill announcing his return. This is truly the news DC fans have been waiting on forever.

It could not have come at a better time. Black Adam is doing very well with general audiences bringing in truckloads of cash worldwide. Gunn is fresh off the success of The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker and has constantly beamed with excitement when talking about his future. Now we know why. This is the culmination of all of it and there is no better person for the job.

Gunn has worked for both Marvel and DC but his true nature for R Rated craziness really got to shine on The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker. With Marvel he has shown he can keep that same signature style and tone it down enough to keep it PG-13. That is what DC needs. A breath of fresh air in the willingness to step outside of a comfort zone. He takes on obscure characters and makes them household names and DC needs that. They need brand recognition through heroes like Plastic Man and others finally getting their dues.

This has been a long time coming. That may sound dramatic but having seen Marvel pump out success after success the want for DC to do the same is a flame that always remained burning. Perhaps it was growing smaller and now this brings the accelerant we need. There has not been so much buzz surrounding DC since Man of Steel was originally being anticipated. Whether that became a lack of faith in leadership, a loss of trust in creators or anything else, I think it is safe to say those days are behind us. We can finally look forward to fun again. On all fronts. Film, Television and animation.

All of this news still feels surreal to me as a DC fan. We have a studio. We have a leader. One who I admire as a storyteller and one who inspires other visionaries to take bold leaps. Also one who when faced with adversity stayed true to himself and was man enough to apologize for those mistakes.

Let's hope in the coming weeks and months we get to hear about what the first batch of stories will be. A writer director for the next Superman movie is a big priority. Who is the main Batman of the DCEU? Replacing Ezra Miller and finally making a statement distancing themselves from him is a big one. Moving on from Amber Heard is another. This is no easy task. There is still adversity to face. It's not a job that can be taken lightly. DC ever having a chance to be seen as a powerhouse is riding on this leadership decision.

It is time we the fans gave them the benefit of the doubt now. We wanted creativity at the forefront. We got it. We wanted a suit who understands how to reign it in. We got that. DC is in good hands. Gunn and Safron won't deliberately tarnish the brand. We cannot say the same about previous leaders. So it is high time we stopped pressuring these leaders and just let them do what they want to do and just enjoy the ride. Like it or hate it is the ride we are taking. I am excited to see the twists and turns this rollercoaster has. Hopefully the biggest issue going forward at DC is simply that we have to wait on more amazing content.
